Carol E. Dinkins

Carol Eggert Dinkins (born November 9, 1945 in Corpus Christi , Texas ) is an American lawyer specializing in environmental law and a university professor who was also the US Assistant Attorney General .

Life

After attending school, she first studied education at the University of Texas , where she earned a Bachelor of Science ( BS Education ) in 1968 . She then studied law : first from 1968 to 1969 at the University of Texas and then at the University of Houston , where she completed her studies in 1971 with a Juris Doctor (JD). After her admission to the bar in the state of Texas, she was a professor at the University of Texas from 1971 to 1973 before she then practiced as a lawyer for more than ten years.

In 1984 Carol Dinkins, who is also a member of the Republican Party , became deputy attorney general as deputy attorney general until 1985. After her retirement from this position, she was not only director of the Environmental Law Institute between 1985 and 1991 but between 1986 and 1999 also director of the Environmental and Energy Study Institute and from 1986 to 2005 also trustee of the Houston Museum of Natural Science . In addition, she became a senior partner at Vinson & Elkins law firm in Houston , where she specializes in environmental law.

In addition to other positions at the American Law Institute , she was a member of the Board of Governors of the American Bar Association between 2005 and 2008 . In 2006, Carol Dinkins became chair of the Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board , a body that advises the US President and other government officials on issues relating to the observance of private and civil rights.
