Ross L. Malone
Rosser "Ross" Lynn Malone Jr. (born September 9, 1910 in Roswell , New Mexico ; † August 13, 1974 ibid) was an American lawyer who served as United States Deputy Attorney General from 1952 to 1953 and vice- attorney general and later Was Vice President of General Motors .
Life
Attorney, World War II and Deputy US Attorney General
After attending Roswell High School , Malone first completed an undergraduate degree at Washington and Lee University , graduating with a Bachelor of Arts (BA). A subsequent study of law at Washington and Lee University he finished in 1932 with a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.). He then returned to his hometown and worked there as a lawyer . 1937 was a co-founder and partner of the law firm Atwood and Malone .
During the Second World War made it his military service in the intelligence service of the US Navy recently and became a Lieutenant Commander ( Lieutenant Commander promoted).
After the war, Malone took his work as an attorney in Roswell again and was since 1949 also a member of the judiciary Audit Committee of New Mexico before he by US President Harry S. Truman in 1952 as a successor to A. Devitt Vanech to Deputy Attorney General of the United States appointed and as such served as Assistant Attorney General James P. McGranery until the end of Truman's term on January 20, 1953 .
After leaving the government, he worked again as a lawyer. Malone, who served for many years as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Southwestern Legal Foundation, was awarded the Hatton W. Sumners Prize in 1956 for his contribution to improving the justice system .
ABA President and Vice President of General Motors
He served as President of the American Bar Association (ABA) between 1958 and 1959 .
In addition, Malone also took on numerous public tasks such as being a member of the working group of the Hoover Commission for the rationalization of legal proceedings between 1953 and 1955, the President's Commission on Law Enforcement from 1965 to 1967 and the Commission for the American Revolution Bicentennial Commission celebrations 200 years of the American Revolutionary War . In these roles, he was also one of the lead authors in the early 1960s of the 25th Amendment to the United States Constitution , which regulates issues that may arise in connection with the early termination of a presidency.
In 1967 Malone became vice president and chief legal advisor of the automotive company General Motors and held these functions until his death in 1974. He was also a member of the board of trustees of Washington and Lee University, of which he was rector at the time of his death. The American Bar Association awarded him their ABA Medal posthumously.
