Cristelos is a municipality ( freguesia ) in the Portuguese district ( Portugal ) of Lousada . 3039 inhabitants live in it (as of June 30, 2011). It is considered the most industrial community in the district.

history

Finds show an Iron Age settlement that was later taken over by the arriving Romans . The current location is documented in writing for the first time in a document from 980 . In the royal surveys of 1258 , Cristelos is listed as an independent municipality.

Culture and sights

The late baroque parish church Igreja Paroquial de Cristelos ( also Igreja de Santo André after its patron saint ) has a bell tower and shows inside a. a. Mannerist altarpiece made of gilded wooden leaf ( Talha dourada ).

With the Bairro Doutor Abílio Alves Moreira , a social housing block is a listed building. It was planned for the end of the Estado Novo regime and completed in the 1980s.

The remains of a fortified settlement of the Castro culture can be seen at the archaeological site of Castro de São Domingos .

With the Casa da Ribeira and the Casa da Costilha there are two stately estates in the municipality.
