The railcars DR 713/714 and 715/716 are a first-generation railcar design and have been developed as a double car variant for the DR 701 to 704 series. The main reason for the development was the low acceleration capacity of the one-piece vehicles due to the heavy body and the inefficient drive motors. Simultaneously with this series, the vehicles DR 812/813 to 818/819 were developed for comparison vehicles from the same company with a diesel engine. The DR 713/714 and 715/716 class railcars were in service until the 1950s. The VT 715/716 was still available as a non-powered sidecar until after 1990. One part of the car was scrapped at the Oberweißbacher Bergbahn in 2004 , and there is no further information about the other part, which is said to have served as a train station car in Probstzella .

history

The vehicles are the variant of the DR 701 to 704 for regular large numbers of passengers. They were manufactured by Wegmann & Co. in Kassel in 1925 and delivered at the end of the same year. Except for the missing driver's cab of the individual car, the vehicles with the DR 701 to 704 are almost identical.

Initially, the vehicles ran with the road numbers 101/102 Halle and 101/102 Cassel . They were painted dark green. Both vehicles got the red and beige railcar paintwork around 1932. The 713/714 was first used in Torgau , later in Westphalia . The 715/716 was initially used in Kassel. Later locations were Nordhausen , Gotha and Erfurt .

During the Second World War , the vehicles were converted to run on LPG and continued to be used in travel. They also received a steam injection device to preheat the cooling water system.

After the war, the VT 713/714 came to the DB , where it was given the designation VT 87 900 . It was no longer used, but was retired in 1950. The VT 715/716 remained with the Deutsche Reichsbahn and remained in service there until 1957. After retirement, it was converted into a non-powered double trailer and was given the designation VB 140 604/605 . This vehicle was used from Naumburg (Saale) , Nordhausen, Jerichow and Saalfeld / Saale . Both part cars were given the EDP numbers 190 854-0 and 190 855-7 . The 190 855-7 was used as a holiday home in Lichtenhain until 2004 and was then scrapped, the 190 854-0 was initially in the Schwarze Pumpe and later in Probstzella as a train station car. There is a model of the vehicles.

Constructive features

The car body was built according to the same structural principles as the DR 701 to 704 . It had a riveted steel frame and a riveted steel framework with sheet metal as superstructures. The differences between the closely coupled single wagons were the lack of a second driver's cab and the larger axle base compared to the 701/704 series . Both single wagons were connected to each other at the short coupling end with bellows. One car was designed as a seating car with 50 seats, the other as a load wagon with 30 seats. At the short coupling ends, one car had a toilet, the other a luggage compartment. Access to the entry areas of the short dome part was via a diagonally offset door.

The drive system of each individual car was also identical to that of the VT 701 to 704 , only that it was designed as a double machine system on the car, which was controlled as a group. There are no reports on experiences with the double machine system.
