Sister Love is a German television film of Michael Zens from the year 2019 . It is the third film from the Heimatfilm series Home in the Mountains . Walter Sittler , Max Herbrechter , Theresa Scholze , Matthi Faust , Catherine Bode , Thomas Unger , Valerie Niehaus , Ben Braun , Julian Weigend and Judith Toth play the leading roles .

The ARD wrote to the premiere of the film "The reconciliation of the Patriarchs and an unwanted pregnancy begin the ratios between the Hubers and Leitners to change. But there is still a long way to go before the two long warring families become friends again or they even grow together into one 'big' one. "

action

After her one-night stand with Georg Leitner, Marie Huber realizes that she is expecting a baby from him. Since her baby bump is growing rapidly, it is more and more difficult to hide it, and more than once she has difficulty explaining. So far, Marie has only revealed herself to her sister Lisa. She is afraid of her father's reaction and she doesn't yet know how to tell Georg. Georg had tried to contact her after that night, but failed because of her resistance. When she was about to speak to Georg, she overheard a conversation that made her back off because she was no longer sure whether she should really tell Georg about her pregnancy. She first wants to consult with her sister Lisa, a lawyer.

Georg and his ex-wife Mirjam have a custody dispute over their daughter Lea. She wants to move to France with her new boyfriend. Georg got the hard struggling attorney Dr. Kendrich has been entrusted with his representation. The lawyer advises him that if he wants sole custody of Lea, he must let his wife look like a bad mother. Sebastian Leitner notices how much his granddaughter is suffering from her parents' argument, she even tells him that it would be better if she weren't there, then her parents would no longer have any reason to argue.

Another chapter is that Hamburg restaurateur Steffen, a friend of Georg's, wants to push his business partner Leonie Assmann out of the jointly run restaurant, for which he hopes Georg's help. What the two men do not suspect is that Leonie has a twin sister named Lena, with whom she came to the Allgäu. Since Lena is much more researcher than the gentle Leonie, the twin sisters swap roles to meet Steffen. This is how Lena Steffens sabotages cooking events. However, Steffen explains to her that she is also shaming herself if she has not noticed that fewer and fewer guests are coming to both of their gourmet restaurants. You can find many of their former regular guests where something new is offered. Lena takes his arguments seriously, and she also likes the good-looking man. Ultimately, she and her sister agree to swap jobs. Now finally there is a connection between Leonie and Christian, a long-time friend of the twins, who has loved Leonie for a long time. When Lena Steffen explains, he takes her in his arms and kisses her.

Sebastian Leitner takes another step towards Lorenz Huber and asks him to ask Lisa if she would be willing to represent Georg in the custody dispute. Although Georg rebukes his father for his interference, he then visits Lisa and asks her to represent him in court. 20 years ago, under the influence of alcohol, Lorenz Huber ran over Peter, Sebastian Leitner's youngest son. The families, who had previously been close friends, became enemies, which also cost the Huber family a large part of their property, valuable pastureland.

But Lisa also has problems, her former friend Karin asks her urgently for an interview. Although Lisa refuses at first, she then complies with their pleading request. Many years ago Karin made sure that the connection between Florian Leitner and Lisa broke because she wanted Florian to herself. Now she lets it be known that her husband is no longer interested in her and that Lisa only has to snap her fingers to get him back.

When Marie finally got through to talking to her father about her pregnancy and the father of the child, with the support of Lisa, the sisters not only find their father on the bench, who spends every day at the same time at the grave of Peter, who he ran over sitting in front of the grave, but also Sebastian Leitner. They withdraw in silence.

Interviews with the main actors

Questions to Walter Sittler

When asked why Sebastian decided, after 20 years of radio silence, to take a step towards his former friend, Sittler replied that he learned from dealing with children, almost the only ones whom he really trusts, what matters. Having time for each other, being brave and being smart. He learns that the children do not belong to the parents, that friendship is something irreplaceable, and he also does not like the way his adult children treat those of his ex-boyfriend. He personally believes very much in friendship and, in his opinion, it is also the case that you cannot have many real friendships - there is not enough time for that, because without time it is in vain. One can forgive accidents, especially if it is an accident through no fault of one's own and one does not take one's own feelings more seriously than the feelings of the other person. That requires size and modesty, which is only apparently a contradiction in terms. Everyone, without exception all really great personalities, are humble because they know about impermanence.

Questions to Max Herbrechte

When asked whether he was someone who could forgive well, Max Herbrecht replied that it always depends on the gravity of the situation. Basically he's quick to forgive, but don't forget, he added with a smile. He likes country life very much, but doesn't want to miss out on the 'luxury' of the city, which is why he is more of a city dweller.

Questions to Catherine Bode

Catherine Bode said on the question of why the pregnant Marie had such great reservations about initiating the child's father Georg and whether she could understand their conflict, that was a really interesting question. As an actor you don't always play characters who would behave the way you would do it yourself or how you think it's good. But in preparation for a role, try to answer exactly these questions. In the best case, the character's motivations and their own are not too far apart, or at least one can easily understand how a character behaves. In the case of Marie, she found it a little difficult. She is absolutely convinced that both child and father have the right to know about each other. When it comes to childhood in the country, she is completely one with Marie! In her opinion, there is nothing better for a child than living in the country. She also sees that in her own children.

Questions to Theresa Scholze

One wanted to know from Theresa Scholze whether Lisa was more of a city or more of a country person. She said that Lisa had to find out at the moment; in any case, city life had changed her, which you can see in the way she dress, but also in how she deals with situations. However, it is important to accept the structures, and that is not always easy for Lisa. If something doesn't seem sensible or fair to her, she don't care about the rules and just do what she thinks is right - of course that can go wrong. She grew up in Brandenburg an der Havel, but also lived in big cities and precisely because she knows the differences, she thinks it's great what the big city has given her, but her roots are simply in the small town. There she has a feeling of security and she thinks Lisa is probably the same. Florian is not just a friend or ex-partner with whom Lisa has concluded, there is a tension between the characters and questions to which Lisa wants answers. The story of that time is not over for Lisa. Florian is no longer the Florian from back then. It is hard for Lisa to realize that her childhood sweetheart, which she has not been able to forget until today, may only have this high value in her memory.

Questions to Thomas Unger

Thomas Unger said that Marie's decision to keep the pregnancy a secret from Georg was already a violent measure and probably testifies to great fear on her part to be confronted with such facts in the middle of this unsettled relationship mess. He thinks she is desperately trying to somehow retain sovereignty in a situation in which trusting the child's father does not seem to be a viable option. But concealment is never a good advisor ... somehow it'll come out anyway. When asked how well he was able to cook privately, since he played a passionate cook and restaurant owner, Unger said that pragmatism often takes precedence in his private life, although he loves it when fine food is on the table. But it shouldn't be too expensive for him.

Questions to Matthi Faust

Matthi Faust was asked if he, like Lisa, was of the opinion that his role Florian had changed to her disadvantage. Faust said that Florian had been through a lot and was at a crossroads in his life. After the lie on which his previous family life was based came out, everything he believed in and built up collapsed. He thinks you have to let go of your children, at some point, that is difficult, but inevitable, he sees it differently than his character Florian, who has very different plans for his daughter than she does.

Questions to Valerie Niehaus

It was really exciting for her to play two different people from 'the same wood' and to work out, as the sisters showed similar reactions due to their home and their belonging to each other. Dreams show you the way, but of course it is necessary to have an observing view of reality in order not to fail because of your dreams.

Questions to Ben Braun

Ben Braun, who plays an ambitious Hamburg restaurateur, was asked how good his cooking skills were and which dishes he preferred. He said that unfortunately it doesn't look as spectacular at home as in Steffen's 'Cooking Show' in the film. While preparing for the role he had a little cooking training, for example chopping onions at high speed, opening eggs casually with one hand and things like that.

publication

The first broadcast of the film took place under the motto "Finally Friday in the First" and took place on April 26, 2019 in the program of the ARD Das Erste at prime time .

reception

Audience rating

When it was first broadcast, the family drama was tuned into by four million people, which corresponded to a market share of 13.3 percent, with younger viewers the market share was 7.5 percent.

criticism

The critics of the TV magazine TV Spielfilm tilted their thumbs to the side, gave one of three possible points for humor, tension and eroticism and wrote: "The idyllic rural calendar is surprisingly sweaty, has very likeable characters, but is overloaded with simple-minded side stories." Conclusion: "There's a sin on the Alm - nothing more".

On the Prism side, Hans Czerny could n't get much out of the film. He spoke of a "meager overture" of the opening films based on the script by the "series-proven author Brigitte Müller", to whom the intricacies of the story "seemed a bit too depressing", which is why they were "for the lack of momentum built in an outrageous story about two identical twins from Hamburg ”. Valerie Niehaus should or should "play the two women all alone". Although that brings "a few nice moments when the twins Leonie and Lena appear in the picture at the same time", it is otherwise "a terribly lengthy affair".

Wolfgang Platzeck from the Berliner Morgenpost saw it completely differently and said why big words are needed, “when the smallest signals and brief glances are so unequally more eloquent”. Like Walter Sittler and Max Herbrechter, who did not even have a lot of dialogue in the film, "as enemy peasant patriarchs Sebastian Leitner and Lorenz Huber, tormented by the conflict of feelings, gradually pushing towards a reconciliation, how the opposition at least becomes a coexistence" that it is "hard to beat in terms of intensity and is one of the great moments of the new episode 'sisterly love'". 'At home in the mountains' is “not a staid homeland film. Not a trace of crack leather folklore. The magnificent alpine backdrop [is] merely the foil for a haunting family and relationship drama that could take place anywhere ”. Regarding the dual role of Valerie Niehaus, the critic said that her “confident change between the fundamentally different characters” provided “refreshing accents in this alpine saga”. Conclusion: "Completely convincing third part of the sensitive alpine family saga."
