history

First documented mention and place name

The place was first mentioned in documents in 1272 as Daluwitz . The place name is interpreted as "settlement of the people of a Dal" . Other forms of the place name were, over time, according to the Digital Historical Directory of Saxony (HOV) of the Institute for Saxon History and Folklore (ISGV) : Dalewitz (1288), Dalewicz , Dalwicz (1378), Dalewicz (1406), Delwicz (1460 ), Dalwicz (1506), Dalbitz (1521), Dalwiz (1539) and finally Dallwitz in 1791.

Further development

The place was originally laid out as an alley village-like estate settlement with a manor block corridor . Originally a German colonist village, it was later owned by the church. There have been a few changes of ownership over the centuries. In 1378 the settlement was subject to Hayn Castle. Around 1406 the size of Dallwitz is given as 2 34 hooves and two gardens. At that time the village was an official village of Hayn, where it also paid country prayers . Dallwitz was incorporated into Lenz since 1539.

The local manor belonged in the 16th century to the noble family von Nischwitz , who sold it to Gottfried Herrmann Graf von Beichlingen in 1760 . Von Beichlingen united it with the neighboring manor in Dobritzchen around 1700 that he had also bought. Other owners in the following years were, among others, the court and judicial councilor von Schmidt, a baron von Kessinger, Hans Sigmund von der Pforte and Eduard von der Becke .

Around 1840 there were 3 farms, 3 other houses, 2 stately thresher apartments and a hereditary water and pond mill with a total of 76 inhabitants. Around 1901 Dallwitz came into the possession of the War Ministry together with Dobritzchen , which erected a remonted property here and later finally became state property.

In 1960, Dallwitz was incorporated into the neighboring community of Lenz, which was incorporated into the community of Priestewitz on January 1, 1999 . On November 1, 2003, Dallwitz, like Dobritzchen, was deleted from Priestewitz as an independent part of the municipality.

Culture and sights

Among other things, the manor house of the former manor has been preserved in Dallwitz . The two-storey building was erected in 1710. It was given its current appearance through renovations in the 19th century . Like the adjacent former manor park, it is now a listed building.

The nearby former mill house with an associated side building is also under monument protection. Both were built partly in half-timbered construction in the 19th century.

Another architectural monument is a historic stone arch bridge with natural stone balustrade over the Hopfenbach. This is also on the local list of monuments .
