Daniel Community Center

The Daniel Community Center was built from 1965 to 1967 according to plans by Bodo Fleischer in the architectural style of post-war modernism . It is located in the Berlin district of Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf , district Wilmersdorf , at Brandenburgische Strasse 51. It serves the Evangelical Daniel parish Berlin -Wilmersdorf in the parish of Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf , which belongs to the Berlin district of the Evangelical Church Berlin-Brandenburg-Silesian Upper Lusatia .

history

In 1965 a new congregation was formed from parts of the congregations of the Hochmeisterkirche and the church at Hohenzollernplatz , which Daniel chose as its namesake . The Federal Insurance Institution for Salaried Employees ceded an overgrown piece of rubble on the corner of Brandenburgische Münstersche Straße with the condition that half of the places in the day-care center were provided for the children of their employees. First, a prefabricated building was built, which was later used for the Johann Sebastian Bach Church in Lichterfelde. The first section of the community center was inaugurated on September 17, 1967. A church with a striking bell tower was originally planned as the structural focus , which should be visible from both Kurfürstendamm and Fehrbelliner Platz . The financial situation of the church as a whole led to the postponement of this component at the end of the 1960s. The community center was expanded to the Daniel Campus in 2012 .

Building description

In addition to the two main groups of community centers with variable church premises and those with multi-purpose rooms, there are centers where, although there is a building design was for an independent church, but not for construction came. This is the case with the Daniel community center, so the community hall is used as a worship room.

The structure was erected as a reinforced concrete skeleton structure filled with masonry . The three wings of the building complex have two floors . One wing includes the church hall as well as the community and administration rooms , the rear wing contains the daycare center and youth rooms . In the third wing, which is at right angles to Münsterschen Straße, there are apartments for pastors and community nurses . The buildings, which enclose a terraced courtyard , are divided by light and dark plaster .

The interior of the church hall looks like a shell . The beams are exposed from the reinforced concrete skeleton . The concrete ceiling above is unplastered, the structure of the boards of the formwork is visible. The church hall has no windows, it receives natural light through some skylights . A simple table serves as an altar . The organ with two manuals and a pedal has 16 registers and was manufactured in 1992 by the Berlin organ building workshop Karl Schuke .

Peal

A bronze bell consisting of three bells was made by Petit & Gebr. Edelbrock . The frame of the belfry is on the flat roof of the school building.
