Daniel DiNardo
Daniel Nicholas Cardinal DiNardo (born May 23, 1949 in Steubenville , Ohio ) is Archbishop of Galveston-Houston and President of the Bishops' Conference of the United States since 2016 .
Life
After attending St. Anne Grade School (1955–1963) at Castle Shannon and the Jesuit School in Pittsburgh (1963–1967), DiNardo attended St. Paul Seminary and Duquesne University (1967–1969). From 1969 he was a student at the Catholic University of America , where he completed his studies with a master's degree in philosophy .
On July 16, 1977 by Bishop Vincent Leonard Martin for priests of the Diocese of Pittsburgh ordained , he was then chaplain of the parish of St. Pius X in 1981 and Vice-Chancellor of the Curia of the Bishop of Pittsburgh and professor at St. Paul Seminary. Living in Rome from 1984 to December 1990 and working in the Congregation for the Bishops , he then became Deputy Head of the Secretariat for the Catholic Schools in the Vicariate General and Pastor of the Madonna del Castello Church in Swissvale in his home diocese . In 1994 he became pastor of the new St. Peter and Paul Congregation in Franklin Park Borough.
1997 Coadjutor Bishop of Sioux City appointed, he received on 7 October 1997 by Bishop Lawrence Donald Soens the episcopal ordination . Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Pittsburgh, Donald William Wuerl , and the Bishop of La Crosse , Raymond Leo Burke . Since November 28, 1998 himself Bishop of Sioux City, he became Coadjutor of the Bishop of Galveston-Houston on January 16, 2004. He received on 29 December 2004 with the elevation of the diocese to archdiocese personal title Archbishop and was there in 2006 archbishop on 28 February.
On November 24, 2007, Benedict XVI took him . as a cardinal priest with the titular church Sant'Eusebio in the college of cardinals . Cardinal DiNardo attended the 2013 conclave after Benedict XVI. resigned on February 28, 2013.
On November 15, 2016, Cardinal DiNardo was elected President of the Bishops' Conference of the United States and held this office for 3 years.
