Zen was born in Val di Fassa . He was the cathedral organist in Brixen and later received the cathedral provost of Brixen. Zen was a Ladin and was ordained a bishop on October 3, 1627. From 1615 to 1616 he was dean of Krems an der Donau . From 1627 to 1628 he was Bishop of Brixen; he died on September 24, 1628 at the age of 44. Zen was the only Ladin who became Bishop of Brixen.
