Christoph von Schroffenstein , also Christoph von Schrofenstein (* around 1460 at Schroffenstein Castle ; † March 29, 1521 in Innsbruck ) was Prince-Bishop of Brixen .

Christoph von Schroffenstein was born in his fathers castle near Landeck in North Tyrol. In 1480 he received his first canonical at the Cathedral of Brixen . In 1493 he became a doctor of both rights and received a canonical at the Cathedral of Trento . From 1495 he appeared as an advisor to Emperor Maximilian, a year later he became coadjutor of Ulrich von Liechtenstein , who was then Prince-Bishop of Trento. In 1509 he succeeded Melchior von Meckau in the office of Prince-Bishop of Brixen. He was ordained priest and bishop in 1511; in the same year he held a diocesan synod and took care of the printing of a new missal . During his time as prince-bishop the war against Venice and the attempt of the emperor to put the Bressanone monastery at the service of the Tyrolean sovereigns and the national defense, as well as brisk construction activity at the Bruneck castle . The coat of arms of Christoph von Schroffenstein is attached in two places on the complex.

Christoph von Schroffenstein died after a long illness. His tombstone was designed by Hans Valkenauer from Salzburg and can now be seen on the facade of Bressanone Cathedral.
