Anton Crosini from Bonporto

Anton Crosini von Bonporto (born March 20, 1581 in Trient ; † May 14, 1663 in Brixen ) was Prince-Bishop of Brixen from 1648 to 1663 .

Origin and education

Anton Crosini von Bonporto was born in Trento in 1581. His family came from the Judiciary and was ennobled in 1585.

He studied in Innsbruck , Dillingen and at the Collegium Germanicum in Rome. Crosini was ordained on June 4, 1605 a priest in the same year in Perugia as a doctor of theology and in Bologna for Dr. iur. utr. PhD.

Activity as a clergyman

Crosini became canon in Brixen in 1610 , where he also held the parish in 1616/17. He traveled to Rome on behalf of the bishop in 1620 and represented him several times in the Tyrolean parliament. From 1619 to 1624 he was vicar general of the diocese of Brixen. On April 26, 1634 he was appointed auxiliary bishop in Brixen and titular bishop of Belline . He received his episcopal ordination on February 17, 1625 in Trento. From 1625 he was also cathedral capitular in Trento. Crosini was in Brixen 1625 Domdekan and 1632 provost . In 1639, the Brixen cathedral chapter entrusted him with the care of the hospital in Klausen .

Bishop of Brixen

After the death of Johann Platzgummer , Crosini was elected Bishop of Brixen on July 16, 1647 by acclamation by the cathedral chapter. The papal confirmation he received on 30 March 1648. Crosini let his diocese repeated by his vicar general and other officers inspect .

In 1653/54, the Tyrolean prince Ferdinand Karl , who was suffering from financial difficulties, pledged the lords of Michelsburg, Schöneck and the lower third of Rodeneck in the Puster Valley against 50,000 guilders for 25 years to the bishopric. This resulted in disputes between Tyrol and the bishopric about the homage of the nobility, the monasteries and the subjects and the customs duties. Crosini asked the electoral college to oblige the future emperor to mediate in the conflict in an election surrender.

Crosini's writings include a vita of St. Kassian , one of the patrons of the diocese of Brixen, legal treatises and a work for future confessors.

Anton Crosini von Bonporto died on May 14, 1663 in Brixen and was buried in Brixen Cathedral .
