Daniel Michael von Woyna (born December 8, 1789 in Osterode (East Prussia) , † January 7, 1862 in Breslau ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

Daniel was a son of the Prussian captain Michael von Woyna (1748-1810) and his wife Anna Dorothea, née Wagner (1755-1792). His brother Wilhelm (1784-1865) also became a Prussian major general.

Military career

Woyna visited the cadet houses in Kulm and Berlin . On April 9, 1803 he joined the infantry regiment "von Kalckreuth" of the Prussian Army as a private corporal and took part as an ensign during the Fourth Coalition War in the battles near Halle , Lübeck and Tilsit .

After the war he was promoted to secondary lieutenant in mid-January 1808 and was thereby aggregated into the Silesian Reserve Battalion . On March 17, 1809, he was then aggregated to the 1st Silesian Infantry Regiment and assigned to mid-July 1809. On July 12, 1813, Woyna received the command of the hunter detachments of his regiment. During the Wars of Liberation he fought in the battles near Großgörschen , Bautzen , Dresden , Kulm , Leipzig as well as the siege of Erfurt and the battle near Janvillers. During that time he was promoted to Prime Lieutenant on February 12, 1814 .

After the war, Woyna was promoted to captain and company commander in early September 1817 . He was promoted to lieutenant colonel by April 1842. On October 17, 1844, he was initially commissioned to lead the 18th Infantry Regiment in Poznan and, after being promoted to colonel , was appointed regimental commander on January 13, 1846. On August 3, 1848 was adjusted Woyna with board for disposition before the September 16, 1848 under presentation of the character as a major general his farewell was with his previous pension. He died on January 7, 1862 in Breslau.

In his assessment from 1847 it says: "Very decent, benevolent and active, he is suitable for promotion if he has the trust and respect of his subordinates."

family

Woyna married on October 4, 1825 in Breslau Marie von Kalckreuth (1808-1888), a daughter of the captain in the Berlin house for invalids Karl von Kalckreuth (1772-1838). The daughter Hedwig (* 1834) and the son Gustav (1838-1885) emerged from the marriage.
