Professional career

On April 25, 2006, he volunteered for the 2006 NBA Draft , signed with an agent, and waived his last two college years. However, he was then not chosen by an NBA team.

He tried to get into the NBA anyway. He played in try-outs at some clubs (for example at the Dallas Mavericks for which he was able to achieve an average of 4.4 points in five preseason games), but did not receive a season contract. He later became the Austin Toros of the NBA D-League drafted . However, he decided to go to AOK Saloniki in Greece . Later in the 2006/07 season he moved to the Czech NBL league to CEZ Nymberk, where he recorded 12.8 points, 3.2 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 2.0 steals in 26 games  and the team to the national championship could lead.

On October 2, 2007, Washington was accepted into their training camp roster by the San Antonio Spurs . There he prevailed somewhat surprisingly in the preseason against rookie Marcus Williams, who was elected by the Spurs in the second round of the 2007 NBA Draft . In seven preseason games (in one he was even in the star formation of the Spurs) he made an average of 9.3 points, 3.0 rebounds and 3.4 assists. Darius Washington was in the Spurs' 15-man squad for the 2007/08 NBA season .

After Washington played 15 games for the Spurs, he was sent on November 29 by the Spurs to the Austin Toros in the NBA Development League . In the first game for the Toros, Darius scored 32 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists in a 114: 109 win over the Sioux Falls Skyforce. On December 8th, Darius had the first triple-double of his professional career against the Tulsa 66ers . He made 26 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. He started all four games for the Toros, led the D-League with 28.2 points and scored an average of 8.5 rebounds, 6.2 assists and 2.0 steals in 38.5 minutes per game.

On December 13th he was brought back to the NBA by the Spurs, who at the time had some injury problems, before he was sent back to the Toros on December 21 after just three games. In the D-League he played two more games until Darius Washington was sacked by San Antonio on December 28th. In a total of 18 games for the Spurs in the NBA, Darius made 2.9 points and 1.1 rebounds in 8.1 minutes.

On January 5, 2008, Washington signed a contract in the Greek League with PAOK's city rival Aris Saloniki .
