action
A young woman was stabbed to death in a park. The suspicion falls on the moderator Marchi. He is sentenced to life imprisonment, but the series of murders does not end. The public is appalled. Marchi is then released from custody. Commissioner Berardi burns with eagerness to catch the murderer. But the unknown murderer now begins to blackmail Marchi.
production
In Germany, the film was originally to be released freely after Edgar Wallace (as the 33rd film in the Edgar Wallace series of the Rialto Film ). However, after an expert opinion by Gerhard F. Hummel , both Constantin Film and Rialto Film withdrew from financing the project, so that Wallace's name was ultimately not mentioned.
The film was shot in Bergamo and Milan .
criticism
"Solidly made, exciting thriller in a tasteful setting"
“The film is without question one of the most elegant and virtuoso staged examples of its genre, and it is a real pleasure to follow Carlo Carlini's camera work, which - in combination with a tight editing montage - captivates the viewer to the dark events. (...) The film differs from its American counterparts in that it not only lists its themes - a broken marriage, a disturbed father-son relationship, destroyed love, etc. - but also them in a very sensual, romantic aesthetic the staging makes the viewer noticeable. I have seldom seen that a film succeeds so well in preparing a simple entertainment story so artfully and at the same time dispensing with any superfluous frills - great! The form is completely at the service of the extremely exciting story. "
“The excellent script, which is implemented by the very good actors Helmut Berger and Silvano Tranquilli, is full of surprises and ideas. This wonderfully successful film is one of the best of its time and one of Tessari's best works. Carlo Carlini's camera work can also be judged as excellent. "
