Dasmariñas (often shortened to Dasma ; officially: City of Dasmariñas ; Filipino : Lungsod ng Dasmariñas ) is a city ( component city ) in the Philippine province of Cavite . It is located about 30 km south of Manila . Dasmariñas was until the city elevation on November 25, 2009 by Republic Act No. 9723 the largest municipality in the Philippines based on the number of inhabitants.
Neighboring communities
Dasmariñas borders the municipality of Imus to the north, the municipality of San Pedro to the east , the municipality of Carmona to the northeast, separated by the Embarcadero River , the municipality of Silang to the south and the municipality of General Trias separated by the river Ylang-Ylang . Except for San Pedro in the province of Laguna , all neighboring communities belong to the province of Cavite.

history
The name goes back to the Spanish governor Gómez Pérez Dasmariñas , who was governor of the Philippines from 1590 to 1593. After his death, his son Luis Pérez Dasmariñas was governor of the Philippines from 1593 to 1596. Dasmariñas literally means “from the navy” in Galician .
Efforts to elevate the city
Dasmariñas efforts by a municipality ( municipality ) to a city ( component city to rise), resulted in referendums in 1997 and 2000. Both times the referendum by an overwhelming majority was rejected. Dasmarinas was finally made a city in December 2009.
Economy and Infrastructure
Dasmariñas is one of the fastest growing municipalities in the province of Cavite. Numerous shops, including large shopping malls, fast food restaurants, grocery stores, department stores, restaurants and other service-oriented businesses are mostly concentrated in the main town. Industrial companies are located on the outskirts. Dasmariñas is the municipality with the largest number of universities in the province of Cavite. Dasmariñas has transformed from an agriculture-based economy to a highly dense industrial city. Three major industrial parks, namely First Cavite Industrial Estate (FCIE) in Baranggay Langkaan, Dasmariñas Technopark in Baranggay Paliparan I and NHA in Bagong Bayan are located in Dasmariñas. In addition, there are 240 other factories and shops spread across the various barangays. There are a total of 309 commercial enterprises operating in Dasmariñas.
