David Alan Capuano (born July 27, 1968 in Warwick , Rhode Island ) is a former American ice hockey player of Italian descent who played between and among others 110 games for the Pittsburgh Penguins , Vancouver Canucks , Tampa Bay Lightning and San Jose Sharks played in the National Hockey League on the left winger position . His brother Jack, two years older than him was also a professional ice hockey player and also active as a head coach in the NHL.
Career
Capuano initially played extremely successfully at the University of Maine from 1986 to 1989 and was selected several times in various All-Star Teams of the National Collegiate Athletic Association . The Pittsburgh Penguins had previously secured the rights to his person in the 1986 NHL Entry Draft . There they had selected him in the second round in overall position 25.
In the 1989/90 season , the American then played his first NHL games for the Penguins. A total of six times he played there before he was given in January 1990 in a six-player swap deal to the Vancouver Canucks . The 1990/91 season then spent the left winger completely in the NHL with the Canucks. After a knee injury, which he had sustained in November 1990, he fell out almost the entire 1991/92 season and ran in only nine games in the American Hockey League .
In November 1992 he switched to the Tampa Bay Lightning , who mainly used him in the International Hockey League . For the Lightning herself, he was only on the ice six times. This then sent him in June 1993 in exchange for the Finn Peter Ahola to the San Jose Sharks , for which he only played four times. In November of the same year, the Sharks gave him to the Boston Bruins , where Capuano played 51 games for their AHL farm team Providence Bruins . After the season, in the summer of 1994, he ended his career in which he played 104 NHL games for four different teams and scored 55 points.
International
On an international level, Capuano completed the Junior World Championship in 1987 in Czechoslovakia with the U20 national team of the United States . He finished fourth with the team after the disqualifications against the USSR and Canada. In seven tournament games he contributed two scorer points .
