David Kočí (born May 12, 1981 in Prague , Czechoslovakia ) is a Czech ice hockey player on the position of left winger who has been under contract with HC Sparta Prague from the Czech extra league since October 2011 .
Career
Kočí was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2000 by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the fifth round at a total of 146th position. He spent the next five years with the Wheeling Nailers in the ECHL and the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins in the American Hockey League , the penguins' respective farm teams . For the pens, he did not play a single game in the National Hockey League . Before the 2006/07 season , he signed a contract with the Chicago Blackhawks . After he had played for a while with their farm team, the Norfolk Admirals in the AHL, he played his first NHL game on March 10, 2007 against the Phoenix Coyotes . On his debut, he was involved in three brawls and received a total of 42 penalty minutes. At the end of the season there were nine games for the Blackhawks on his account, in which he could not score but receive 88 penalty minutes.
The following season he was involved in a fight with Zdeno Chára of the Boston Bruins . Kočí had broken his nose shortly before and after the fight with Chára he had to sit out for two weeks due to an injury.
On July 1, 2008, the stocky Czech signed a one-year contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning . After just one game for the Lightning, he was waivered and signed by the St. Louis Blues . For the Blues he played four games and was again put on the waiver, only to be signed again by the Tampa Bay Lightning. On March 26, 2009, he scored his first goal in the NHL against the Montréal Canadiens . The puck was actually poked into the goal by a Canadian player, but due to the special rules in ice hockey, the goal was attributed to him.
On July 1, 2009 David Kočí signed a new one-year contract with the Colorado Avalanche , which was extended for another year before the start of the 2010/11 season .
In September 2011, he took part in the Winnipeg Jets training camp , but received no contract. In October 2011 he was signed for one season by his hometown club Sparta Prague. On May 21, 2012, his contract with HC Sparta Prague was extended for another year.
