David Steffens

David Steffens (* 1984 in Freilassing ) is a German opera singer ( bass ).

Life

education and study

David Steffens was a young student for singing at the Mozarteum Salzburg in the class of Kjellaug Tesaker during his high school days at the Karlsgymnasium Bad Reichenhall . After graduating from high school, he began studying singing at the Mozarteum University in 2005 with Horiana Brănişteanu .

He received further impulses during his studies in the opera class of the Mozarteum with Eike Gramss and Josef Wallnig and in the lied class of Wolfgang Holzmair . He attended master classes with Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau , Ruggero Raimondi , Christa Ludwig , Thomas Hampson , Helmut Deutsch , Rudolf Piernay , Francisco Araiza and Thomas Moser .

Steffens was a scholarship holder of the Cusanuswerk Bonn. After completing his master’s degree with distinction in 2011, he was awarded the Lilli Lehmann Medal by the International Mozarteum Foundation as the best graduate of his year .

After completing his studies, he was a member of the International Opera Studio at the Zurich Opera House in 2011/12 . In 2012 he was accepted into the Young Singers Project of the Salzburg Festival . In the same year he was awarded the Gottlob Frick Medal for young singers.

David Steffens made his debut at the Salzburg State Theater in 2010 as Bartolo in Le nozze di Figaro . From 2012 to 2014 he was a member of the ensemble at the Stadttheater Klagenfurt , where he a. a. as a hermit in the Freischütz and as the magician Tschelio in The Love of the Three Oranges , but especially with his portrayal of Baron Ochs auf Lerchenau in the Rosenkavalier was successful.

Since the 2015/16 season he has been singing in the ensemble of the Württemberg State Opera in Stuttgart , where he a. a. as Figaro in Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro , Eremit in Der Freischütz , 1st Nazarener in Salome , Uncle Bonze in Madama Butterfly , Zuniga in Carmen and Pistola in Falstaff .

As Osmin in Mozart's Die Entführung aus dem Seraglio , he was a guest at the Opéra National de Lyon in June 2016 , as well as at the Schwerin Palace Festival and the Klosterneuburg Opera . In December 2016 he will make his debut at the Stadttheater St. Gallen as King Heinrich in Lohengrin .

concert

David Steffens is also active as a concert singer. His repertoire includes Elias , Messiah , Beethoven's 9th Symphony , Bruckner's Te Deum and Schumann's “Scenes from Goethe's Faust”.

He has given concerts in the Leipzig Gewandhaus , the Herkulessaal in Munich , the Liederhalle in Stuttgart , the Teatro Manzoni Bologna and the Great Hall of the Mozarteum in Salzburg. In 2015 he made his debut at the Schubertiade Hohenems .
