De'Andre James Hunter (born December 2, 1997 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania ) is an American basketball player . He is currently a member of the Atlanta Hawks .

career

Hunter attended Friends' Central School in Wynnewood, a suburb of Philadelphia, until 2016. He decided to move to the University of Virginia after Maryland , Georgetown , Villanova and Notre Dame had also expressed interest in the winger.

In the 2016/17 season he was out of play before he was used in 33 games the following year and scored an average of 9.2 points for Virginia. In March 2018, he broke his wrist. In the 2018-19 season, Hunter became a key player on the path to Virginia's national college championship title. He was in the starting line-up in 38 games and was the team's second-best scorer behind Kyle Guy with 15.2 points per game . In addition, Hunter came to averages of 5.1 rebounds and two basket assists per use. In the final of the NCAA -Titel the NCAA Division I Basketball Championship against the Texas Tech University in April 2019 Hunter Virginia led to a personal career high of 27 points and scored 14 seconds before the end of the final quarter a three-point throw to compensate. In extra time, he and his team won the title.

In mid-April 2019, Hunter, who had previously been named the best defensive player in the first NCAA division in the 2018/19 season by the American basketball coaches association NABC, announced the end of his university career and his registration for  the NBA draft process . There the Los Angeles Lakers decided in fourth place for the services of Hunters. In a previous agreement with the New Orleans Pelicans and Atlanta Hawks , Hunter was given up to the Hawks.
