Delsbo is a place ( Tatort ) in the Swedish province of Gävleborgs län , in the historical province (landskap) Hälsingland .

Location and traffic

Delsbo belongs to the municipality of Hudiksvall and within this, since January 1, 2016, to the district of Delsbo. With almost 2200 inhabitants, the place is the third largest town in the municipality. It is located about 130 km as the crow flies north-northwest of the provincial capital Gävle and 30 km west-northwest of Hudiksvall . Lake Stömnesjön stretches west of the village, east of the significantly larger Södra Dellen (southern dell).

The national road 84 runs through Delsbo, which branches off the European route 4 at Hudiksvall and continues via Ljusdal and Sveg to Funäsdalen and the Norwegian border. In a northerly direction in Delsbo the branches provincial road 305 from which extends parallel to the shore line until the level of Sundsvall the European route E14 achieved.

The place is on the Ljusdal – Hudiksvall (Dellenbanan) railway line, opened in 1888 , which was put into operation further east between Hudiksvall and Näsviken between 1860 (at the time the northernmost railway line in the world) and 1872 as a narrow-gauge railway ( gauge 1217 mm) and in 1887 was bought by the state railway and converted to standard gauge . The line was electrified in 1959 , but closed in 1985/1986. Most of it has been preserved; there is tourist trolley service in the summer months , and there is also a small section of museum traffic with railcars from the Delsbo museum station. The nearest train stations with regular traffic are today in Hudiksvall on the East Coast Railway (Ostkustbanan) from Stockholm to Sundsvall and 25 km west in Ljusdal on the Northern Main Railway (Norra stambanan) from Gävle to Ånge .

history

Delsbo developed no later than the 12th century when the first stone church was built there. In 1740 a large part of the village burned down. Delsbo achieved greater economic importance with the establishment of sawmills . After the opening of the railway line, the town center moved to its current location at the train station.

Delsbo was and is one of the centers of the Hälsingland culture. From there comes a characteristic national costume , and the place is regularly the scene of one of the more significant Spielmann meeting ( spelmansstämman Delsbo or short Delsbostämman ) in Sweden. The place was one of the stops on Nils Holgersson's journey in Selma Lagerlöf's famous novel (Chapter A Day in Hälsingland ). In the area around Delsbo is a special dialect (dellboska) speaking for the West Nordic characteristic influences.

The place was initially the center of a parish ( socken ), from which a rural community of the same name (Delsbo landskommun) emerged in 1863 . This went on in 1971 in the municipality of Hudiksvall.

Attractions

The church of Delsbo was built in 1740–1741 after the previous building had been destroyed by the great fire in 1740, and in 1892–1893 it was rebuilt into a three-aisled basilica , which is unusual for Sweden . The free-standing wooden bell stack dates from 1742.

A number of old commercial and administrative buildings have been preserved in and around the village, such as the sawmill Ede såg ( classified as a historical monument), a water mill (Ede kvarn), the old town hall (tingshus) and a large number of wooden buildings from the 16th to 19th centuries Century in the 1938 opened open-air museum Delsbo Forngård (with 1986 opened museum).

Sports

The skiers of the local club Delsbo IF achieved top positions in national and international competitions, especially in the 1970s, such as a world championship title by Thomas Magnusson in 1974. The club is also active in football and ice hockey.
