The Democrats for a Strong Bulgaria ( bulg: Демократи за силна България , ДСБ for short , or Demokrati sa Silna Balgarija , DSB for short ) are a Bulgarian Christian Democratic and conservative party and have been a member of the European People's Party since 2006 . The DSB is also a member of the International Democratic Union and the Christian Democratic International . The party color is dark blue.

The party emerged in 2004 from the Union of Democratic Forces party and sees itself as the successor to the democratic movements that emerged after the liberation of Bulgaria from Ottoman-Turkish rule in 1878 and after the collapse of communism in 1989. Its chairman is the former Prime Minister Ivan Kostov . The party's motto is “For a strong Bulgaria in a united Europe” (Bulgarian: За силна България в Обединена Европа).

In the 2007 parliamentary elections, it achieved 6.5 percent and 17 seats. The party became the sixth strongest force in parliament.

In the European elections in Bulgaria in 2009 and in the Bulgarian national elections on July 5, 2009, DSB ran as part of the Blue Coalition . The coalition won a mandate in the European elections. In the parliamentary elections, it won 6.76 percent of the vote and has since provided 15 members in the Bulgarian parliament.

After losing the parliamentary elections in Bulgaria in 2013 , in which the DSB failed to enter parliament, Kostov announced his resignation as party chairman. On June 23, 2013 Radan Kanew was elected as the new chairman of the DSB on Kostov's proposal.

In December 2013, the party of the electoral alliance founded the Reform Bloc . At the end of 2016, the party left the reform bloc.

A member of the European Parliament ( Radan Kanew ) represents the DSB.
