DO

DO ( Denominación de Origen ) is a designation of origin for Spanish products such as cheese, sausage, ham or vegetables, and especially Spanish wine. Here it corresponds, for example, to the French VDQS or the German QbA and includes the most famous classic wines of Spain . There are currently 66 DOs. Each DO is decided together with the local administration and the INDO on questions of quality control such as yields and grape varieties .

There are the classifications:

  • DOC ( Denominación de Origen Controlada , registered designation of origin)
  • DOP ( Denominación de Origen Protegida , Protected Designation of Origin)

The wine classification Designation of Origin Calificada (DOC or DOCa.), Which for the first time in 1991 in the Rioja was introduced.
