action

John “Duke” Anderson has served a ten-year prison sentence for robbery. After his release, he renews his relationship with his former girlfriend Ingrid. She lives in a luxury apartment building (1 East 91st Street). Anderson immediately decides to clear out the entire building in one fell swoop - and move the loot away in a moving van. He has the company financed by a nostalgic Mafia boss and rounds up his gang of four. In addition, the aggressive "Röschen" as a watchdog for the Mafia and the alcohol-addicted former convict "Pop", who is supposed to mimic the concierge during the attack, are also part of the party.

However, Anderson is entering the world of comprehensive surveillance systems - agents, cameras , eavesdropping devices, and other surveillance devices from various public and private bodies monitor almost the entire operation, from initial planning through to execution. While Anderson moves on, he is always watched by a different group depending on the location and the people involved.

The robbery is supposed to take place on the weekend and Labor Day. The gang cut telephone cables and alarm wires, move up through the building from floor to floor, driving the residents together. Then every apartment is robbed. Despite the surveillance measures, all the information gathered and the police alerted only after a young resident of the house uses his radio device (via Hawaii , Wichita Falls and Portland , Maine ) to seek help. Unbeknownst to the criminals, a special unit is deployed into the building through the roof of a neighboring house, and an enormous police force gathers outside the building.

When the police stormed the building, a group of criminals tried in vain to escape in a pickup truck. The members of the group are eventually arrested while the agents who monitored Anderson destroy their recordings to avoid being brought under illegal surveillance.

Reviews

The lexicon of international films judges: "An exciting gangster film that combines the conventional genre story with critical references to the dangers of an all-powerful surveillance and control society."
