action

The very structured pharmaceutical consultant Alexander, the somewhat unsuccessful advisor author Ole and the slightly criminal bon vivant Paul have agreed to go on a nostalgia tour. 25 years after graduating from high school, they set off from Berlin in a rickety, yellow, first-generation Golf . Paul bought this model especially for their company and hopes to sell it for a profit afterwards. Before their trip to a festival where their favorite band from back then ( Madness ) really starts, they buy provisions in a supermarket. Here, by chance, they run into another classmate from the old days: Achim. Today he is the store manager and envies the three a little. He would love to come along.

But the planned tour is not turning out as enjoyable as you imagined. Their lives seem to have become too different in the meantime. This escalates for the first time at a rest stop when Paul and Ole deny that they own a silver suitcase that Alexander left in the parking lot. While Alexander is in the toilet, the motorway police take care of the suspicious object and blow it up using a robot. Alexander is angry because Ole left him there while repacking and now his things are gone, including his pills and pills. The attempt to buy the pharmaceutical products he prefers in a pharmacy fails because he cannot provide a prescription.

Arrived at the campsite where they had reserved, they come into conflict with a rock group. This time it's Ole who's angry about their behavior. But Alexander manages to avoid a fight. But even the newly elected camping neighbors do not exactly find the approval of the three. They spend the rest of the day in a local music bar, where they meet Babette and Stephanie. Once again, Alexander turns out to be a drag on the fun when he rejects an offer from Babette to organize the night further. With this, the shy Ole, who is very interested in Stephanie, also bursts his hoped-for sex adventure. As a punishment, Alexander has to spend the night outside the tent. Here he comes out as dependent on pills, because he cannot sleep without sleeping pills. The camping neighbor overhears this loud dispute, who invites Alex for a joint and philosophizes with him about life and getting older. Visibly relaxed, Alex tells his wife on the mailbox at home that he has managed to get off the tablets. The next morning he stands a little "beside himself", but reconciles with Ole again. On the occasion he learns that Paul has a son he has never wanted to know anything about. Ole and Alex therefore propose to visit the young man without further ado, as he doesn't live that far away. The two are a bit shocked when they see that Benjamin has trisomy 21 , which Paul knew and what was the reason that he rejected the boy. His mother Claudia, also her classmate, had accepted Paul's point of view.

On the way back to the campsite, the friends get caught in a storm and off the road. When the police record the accident, they forcibly shut down the car because the old model has a lot of defects. But that's not all, it turns out that Paul stole Benjamin's money during his visit and is so close to having to go to prison for two years for embezzling 100,000 euros if a trial should ensue. The company and friendships threaten to collapse, but nevertheless Ole and Alex stand by him and agree to steal the rickety, yellow Golf from the police car park. Well, shortly before the concert, they change their clothes in proper style and walk towards the entrance full of expectation. As it now turns out, Paul had fake VIP tickets sold. Ole is so angry that he stirs up a riot and receives all three places bans. They argue about it in such a way that everyone accuses everyone of everything possible, but they also have to listen to uncomfortable truths, which makes them think about themselves. So they decide without further ado to go to Stephanie's concert, and Ole opens up the chance to get intimate with her after all. The three friends spend an exuberant evening together - even without experiencing Madness live.

Reviews

Rainer Tittelbach from Tittelbach.tv wrote: “The drama of getting older already resonates in the story of three in their mid-forties, but that's not all about it. The film is also only partially a portrait of the Golf generation, that consumer-hungry ego generation that celebrated hedonism and the private. [...] The tragic comedy, underpinned with a fine trace of gags, tells [...] of eternal life lies, missed dreams and the inevitable strokes of fate of adulthood. "

At Kino.de , Tilmann P. Gangloff wrote : “'The summer after high school graduation' is […] a classic road movie in which he succeeds in turning antiheroes into popular figures. Even the prologue, when the three main characters prepare for the journey to the Madness song ' Our House ', ensures perfect characterization. Basically they are all sad figures who are desperately trying to get a last glimpse of their youth. "

Heike Huperzt from the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung came to the conclusion: “The good thing about this trip: The men come to themselves. The bad: Exactly the same. Taste in music is a question of character, especially when it comes to school. Here it is consistently made a principle. Policemen who beat Whitney Houston on duty gamble away authority at the crucial moment. "

The Hamburger Abendblatt judged: “Ole is - as the others suspected - not a Buddhist, but simply rather shy, Alexander constantly throws pills and other people's leftovers into himself, and Paul has a hit with women, but otherwise steals Money and car. He meets his son, from whom he never wanted to know anything. "
