action

The Wallner couple dreams of retiring from their own home in Malaga, Spain . At the twenty-fifth anniversary of their jointly built company, the Wallner fashion house, they hand over management of the business to their surprised son Thomas and announce their move to the Costa del Sol . This is less convenient for the son's friend, as she wants to accept a job offer in Hamburg. Single daughter Elke, mother of twins , receives her parents' family home and money to be able to afford an au pair girl.

Shortly afterwards, Henriette and Werner Wallner drive south in their car and after a long drive they reach their new house. But the joy is dampened. The moving van was stopped at the border, there is no water in the water pipe and the four-poster bed that Werner ordered as a surprise has not yet been set up. In the absence of tools, they cannot assemble it immediately and have to sleep on the floor. The problems don't want to end in the days after. The craftsman they ordered explains to them that the water problem is bigger than they thought. The problems pile up. The once harmonious couple begins to quarrel over every little thing.

The Wallners get to know the neighbor couple. Achim Höppner and his pretty wife Doris work in the town as brokers. The friendly realtor couple invites the two Wallners to various activities. Son Thomas, who is now in a long-distance relationship, is modernizing the business in the meantime. Meanwhile, daughter Elke tries to establish a pastry shop called Elke's wedding cakes in the Schleswig area to the city of Flensburg . After a rain storm, the dry season is over and your own swimming pool can finally be filled. You invite Doris and Achim Höppner to an inauguration ceremony. After Werner's flirtation with the attractive neighbor and after family disputes during Christmas, Henriette finally packs her things and drives back home alone to Schleswig to help the daughter in the wedding cake business.

Desperate Werner decides to sell the house to Doris and Achim Höppner. A mistake, because the realtor couple owned the house several times. Doris had deliberately sown discord with a lot of fun. During the immediate sale and handover of the house, Henriette calls Werner. Werner is just signing the contract, which is why he lets Doris answer the phone. When Henriette heard Doris' voice over the phone, she was silent. Achim Höppner asks his wife who is on the phone. This answers him: “No idea darling” and hangs up. Shaken, Henriette now believes that Doris would call her husband darling. Werner goes back to his old home with the hope that Henriette will forgive him. What remains is the amused realtor couple who already have a new buyer at hand. Both assume that they will drive this buyer and his wife away and bring the house for sale in just six months.

Werner meets his wife in the new wedding cake shop. Elke is not present. She met a man named Sebastian Vater and has just gone out to the cinema with him. Henriette then throws a cake in his face. After she finds out who the buyers of the house are and at what bargain price her husband sold it, she has the sales contract canceled because the house was bought together. Walter is now also beginning to understand that he has fallen for a pair of cheaters. Eventually they get back together, but live separately in two neighboring houses. In these, both had once got to know and love each other as neighbors. Both go to the wedding of their daughter Elke together, despite their separated lives.
