Between 1973 and 1994 the German national soccer team recorded music albums in advance of the World Cup tournaments. The current national football players could be heard with well-known interpreters at the time. A total of six albums and 13 singles were released.

history

For the 1974 World Cup in Germany , the song Football is Our Life , sung by the players of the 1974 World Cup squad, written and produced by the pop composer Jack White , was the official World Cup song of the German Football Association's national team .

The release was commercially successful and for many years became a musical accompaniment to German football. At the 2006 soccer World Cup in Germany , its unbroken popularity was again evident in the stadiums and in the reporting .

The GDR national soccer team also recorded a soccer anthem on the occasion of their participation in the 1974 World Cup, but this had a lesser official character. The DFV kickers around coach Georg Buschner did not sing themselves - the pop singer Frank Schöbel did - but they were on the cover of the single Ja, der Fußball is represented as round as the world (label Amiga ).

The singing of a World Cup song by the national team remained common until the 1994 World Cup . In 1978 and 1990 they worked with Udo Jürgens , in 1982 with Michael Schanze , 1986 with Peter Alexander and in 1994 with the Village People . The commercial success of football is our life could not be repeated in the following publications.

For the soccer World Cup in France in 1998 , the commissioned composition Running with a Dream was determined to be an official World Cup song, in which, for the first time since 1974, national players were not involved. Little attention was paid to this song. Since the 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea , no song has been recorded or marketed as an official song for the German national team.

Meanwhile, several performers bring out songs for soccer world championships without an official commission. At home games of the DFB since 2006 the song Black and White by Oliver Pocher has been used, which he published on the occasion of the 2006 World Cup .

For the 2016 European Football Championship , Felix Jaehn and Herbert Grönemeyer recorded the team song Everyone for Everyone . The song was created in close cooperation with the German national soccer team, especially by Mario Götze . In addition to Götze, the other national players Sami Khedira , Christoph Kramer , Manuel Neuer , Marco Reus and Kevin Trapp were present at the recordings . These can be heard clapping in the background of the chorus. Despite the close cooperation and participation, the German national soccer team is not named as the official interpreter.
