The German Humboldt School in Guayaquil , Ecuador , is a private school in the non-profit sponsorship of the Asociación Colegio Alemán Humboldt Guayaquil school association. It is one of the so-called encounter schools in which both Germans and local children can learn together. The German Humboldt School in Guayaquil is financially and personally supported by the Federal Republic of Germany and is one of 141 German schools abroad .
history
The Humboldt School, named after Alexander (1769–1859) and Wilhelm von Humboldt (1767–1835), was founded in 1957 by Renate Lembke as a kindergarten for German emigrants. At first she looked after ten children in her own apartment. It later developed into a primary school for children from other European countries and Ecuador. In 1959 Richard Zeller and Claus Riemann officially founded the school. As early as the 1960s, it developed into a high school with new premises in the Urdesa district. The current location in the Los Ceibos district was built in the 1970s for reasons of space. Today about 1500 students study at the second largest German school in Ecuador. A third of each year study in Germany after graduating from high school .
In April 2009, a branch of the Kindergarten Kinderkosmos was opened in the suburb of Samborondón .
Infrastructure
The school has, among other things, scientific laboratories, a library , an audiovisual media hall , a music building, a multi-purpose sports hall , a football and athletics field and a swimming pool. Theater and music events take place in the theater.
profile
Teaching is based on the Baden-Württemberg curriculum, whereby Ecuadorian and IBO guidelines are also taken into account.
The kindergarten consists of three levels, each with five classes separated by age. As in Sweden or Hungary , educators have completed a teacher training course with a focus on child education (Párvulos) . Unlike in Germany, there are curricula for each level and fixed timetables for each class, so that you can prepare for the first class. German lessons are introduced in a playful way. The children also have music , swimming and physical education classes . A team of psychologists accompanies the children's progress and possible difficulties.
The student-teacher ratio is unique in Guayaquil. In the pre-school and primary school, 20 students are taught by 2 teachers. Thereafter, each class (20 students each, fewer in upper secondary level ) is taught by a class or subject teacher. The language lessons take place in groups of ten students. The teacher is always a native speaker.
In the secondary and II several subjects are taught in German, for example, mathematics , physics , biology , history and art . The school attaches particular importance to scientific education. The classrooms for physics, chemistry and biology are modern and comparable to German classrooms. The teaching of literature still has an important place, as some teachers are recognized writers in the country. In the upper secondary level there is the possibility of an International Abitur in the humanistic branch, the so-called International Baccalaureate , in a special mixed-language version. The scientific and economic profile can be supplemented by a technical college degree .
Another special feature is the dual training , in which the option of training according to German requirements is offered after leaving school. This is also open to graduates from local schools with a knowledge of German.

- ↑ The German day care centers in Ecuador are closest to the guarderías , who see themselves as full or half day care for children of working parents. However, babies and toddlers in the middle and upper classes are usually cared for by a nanny at home before and after kindergarten, so all-day care is rarely offered in a daycare center. The kindergarten of the German School is therefore not to be understood as a day care center
