The 2017/18 season of the German Water Polo League began on October 14, 2017 with the main round and ended with the decisive third win of Waspo 98 Hannover in the fifth game of the final over defending champions and record champions Wasserfreunde Spandau 04 . Waspo 98 Hannover secured its ninth title after 1993. Poseidon Hamburg was relegated directly to the 2nd water polo league .

mode

The games will be played according to the round system with the main round (first and second leg) and the championship round ( play-off finals) from the end of October 2017 to the beginning of June 2018.

Main round

The game was played in two groups (Pro) of eight teams each in a simple round with a return leg. In the Pro A, which included the best eight teams from the previous season, the first two qualified directly for the play-off semi-finals. The teams in places three to six played the other two participants for the play-off semi-finals. The same scenario was used in Pro B. The bottom of the table in Pro A rose directly to Pro B and the winner of the play-off round in Pro B rose to Pro A. The penultimate of the Pro A played a relegation against the second in the play-off round from the Pro B to stay or promotion to the Pro A. The last of the Pro B was relegated directly to the regional 2nd water polo league. The penultimate of the Pro B plays in the promotion tournament for one of the two promotion places.
