The 2017/18 season of the 2nd water polo league was the twelfth season of the second highest German division in water polo as a four-track league ( north , east , west and south ).

Champion was the second representative of White Sharks Hannover in the north, the Czech visiting team from Stepp Praha in the east, the Düsseldorfer SC 1898 in the west and SV Weiden in the south .

In the relegation tournament to the German Water Polo League (DWL) , the penultimate of the DWL took the SGW Cologne and the South German champion SV Weiden the first two places and stayed or rose to the upper house. They prevailed against the runner-up from the north SpVg Laatzen and the West German champion Düsseldorfer SC 1898. No team from the east exercised their right to participate in the relegation tournament.

North

In the north, the master was determined in the mode "each three times against each". The title was secured by the second division of White Sharks Hannover in the Bundesliga . Since Hanover was not eligible for promotion, runner-up SpVg Laatzen took part in the relegation tournament to the German Water Polo League . In this they took third place and missed promotion to the House of Lords. A subsequent DWL rise after the cancellation of SC Neustadt was not noticed.

east

In the east, the master was determined in the mode "everyone against everyone" in a round trip. The visiting team from Stepp Praha successfully defended their championship title from the previous year. According to the implementation regulations of the water polo regional group East, visiting teams were allowed to become East German champions, but not to be promoted to the German Water Polo League (DWL) . The participant for the relegation tournament resulted from the deletion of the results of all games of the "visiting teams" and the first in the table is then qualified for the relegation to the DWL. After the season, however, all teams refrained from participating in the relegation tournament.

In the west, the master was determined in the mode “everyone against everyone” in a round trip. The championship title was secured by Düsseldorfer SC in 1898 and took part in the relegation tournament to the German Water Polo League . In this they took fourth place and missed promotion to the House of Lords. The SGW Iserlohn had to relegate to the top division .

south

In the south, the master was determined in the mode “everyone against everyone” in a round trip and a second round. The SV Weiden defended his title from last year successfully and participated in the relegation tournament for the German Water Polo League in part. In this they took second place and rose to the upper house. The PSV Stuttgart pulled his team before the final game of the season back and got down to the Oberliga Baden-Wurttemberg. Due to the short-term withdrawal from Stuttgart, there were no further relegations from the 2nd Wasserpol-Liga Süd, which will start with thirteen teams in the following season.

Relegation tournament in Weiden

In the relegation tournament for the German Water Polo League (DWL) occupied in Weiden of pro-B Penultimate Schätzlerbad from the DWL ( SGW Cologne ) and the host South German master ( SV Weiden ) the first two places and qualified for the upper house for the following season. They prevailed against the runner-up from the north ( SpVg Laatzen ) and the master from the west ( Düsseldorfer SC 1898 ) . No team from the East exercised their right to participate in the relegation round.
By giving up SC Neustadt on its starting place in the German Water Polo League 2018/19 , SpVg Laatzen would have been the first to succeed. Like Dusseldorf afterwards, Laatzen did not accept the right of promotion to the DWL.
