The horses island is a German love film and film drama of director Josh Broecker from 2006. In the lead role embodies Muriel Baumeister corporate consultant Katja Steinfurth.

action

Katja is a single, successful business consultant who specializes in executive coaching . She has several bosses, one of whom is Gregor, who is also the father of her child Lukas. However, since Gregor is married, he cannot express his feelings towards her and Lukas in public. Since Lukas never really noticed that Gregor was his biological father, he only perceived him as a good friend of his mother. Katja never wanted to tell her son that, rather she made him believe the adventurous story that his father is a cowboy in Canada.

Since Lukas feels neglected by his mother at times, the desire to get to know his father grows in him. Until it is so far that he meets his father, Lukas sometimes bridges the time on the back of a horse in order to be at least mentally close to his father. It becomes dramatic in the life of the young Lukas when he learns that "his" horse Tibor is to be slaughtered. Lukas gathers all his courage and kidnaps the horse in order to evade it from imminent killing. This leads to an accident, and it is now clear to the boy that this circumstance now means certain death for the horse. Based on this knowledge, Lukas completely closes himself off from his surroundings and seems to have forgotten the language, then from this point on he does not speak a word anymore.

However, his mother Katja wants to prevent the worst and buys the horse free. She arranges that the formerly doomed stallion is brought to a stud on a North Sea island so that the animal can lead a happy life there; in the hope that her son will start speaking again.

Katja goes to the island with Lukas so that Lukas can be close to the animal in the near future. The plot takes a turn when Gregor arrives from Berlin to persuade Katja to go back to her original job as a management consultant. While Lukas has now recovered well from all that happened, he and his mother initially return to Berlin together. However, in a roundabout way, Luke comes to the realization that his mother was telling him the untruth the whole time, and that his father is really Gregor. He has already decided to divorce his wife in order to start a future together with Katja and Lukas. But the plot ends in the fact that Katja and Lukas don't want that at all. Rather, the two agree to go back to the island and spend their time there with Nils, who has a stud on the island.

Reviews

The film reviews are mixed. For example, TV Spielfilm judges : “Kitsch, kitchen psychology and a completely flat, foreseeable story”. The summary of the program magazine is: "Kitsch with googly eyes - really to neigh".

The criticism of the Lexicon of International Films is somewhat more benevolent: "Kitschy (TV) love film against a romantic backdrop, which helps a problem-laden mother-son relationship to a more than happy ending".
