The Christmas goose Auguste is a children's film produced for GDR television from 1987/1988 (premiered in 1988) and is based on the story of the same name by Friedrich Wolf . In addition to this film, Die Weihnachtsgans Auguste was also released as a radio play (Rundfunk der DDR, 1959), first filmed in 1964 with Peterle and the Christmas goose Auguste , then implemented as a television play (1979), as a puppet animation (1985 by Günter Rätz ) and as a play.

action

The opera singer Ludwig Löwenhaupt wants to have a real roast for Christmas and so buys a goose six weeks in advance to fatten the family. Little does he know that the three children will from now on become fond of the animal, which is baptized with the name Gustje , and will no longer want to eat it. “Five kilos of meat”, which were initially locked in the cellar, will become a pet after the “liberation”, which the children take to bed with and with which they communicate. Shortly before Christmas, however, Father Lion Head wants to slaughter the goose. But since his family protests and his conscience comes forward, it doesn't come to that. But he tries to kill her with a sleeping pill. However, Auguste wakes up after plucking. She receives a sweater and is now finally allowed to stay in the family as a pet. When the grandmother buys two carp, Peter wants them to stay alive.

background

The film was first shown on television on Christmas Eve 1988. Produced The Christmas goose Auguste in the DEFA - Studio Babelsberg . Numerous outdoor scenes were shot in Dresden (including the Semperoper , the main train station and the Striezelmarkt ). Many parts of the film were shot in Obercunnersdorf in Oberlausitz .

On December 24, 2003, a special "Auguste" ran on MDR - 15 years after the film , in which it was shown what had become of the goose, actually a ganter and meanwhile 16 years old and weighing seven kilograms. His home was the village of Marzahne in Brandenburg , where he hatched in 1987 and lived with coatis, zebras and many other animals with the animal trainer Michael Schweuneke .
On November 29, 2013 it became known that the ganter had died of old age in the spring of the year at a "biblical age" for geese of 26 years. In 2014 the animal trainer Schweuneke wanted to train a successor for Auguste if there was a docile animal among the goslings, the result is not known.

Others

At the 1987 cinema festival in Gera , “The Auguste Christmas Goose” received the mayor's 1987 Golden Spatz special prize , but it is a 1985 puppet cartoon by Günter Rätz .
