history
Diera was first mentioned in 1205 as Dere ( old Sorb .; Place on the desert ) in the founding deed of the Augustinian Canons' Monastery of Sankt Afra. Numerous finds indicate that the area was already settled in pre-Christian times. The place was part of the Grossenhain Castrum and later to the Grossenhain, Zadel and Meißen offices. The basic rule exercised in 1552, the monastery Altzelle out. Between 1856 and 1875 Diera belonged to the Meißen court office, then to the office of the same name . In 1900 the size of the district was 576 hectares . Of the 508 inhabitants in 1925, 473 were Evangelical Lutheran , 10 Catholic and 25 non-denominational. Diera was parish in Zadel and today belongs to the local parish. As a result of the district reform in 1952 , Diera became an independent municipality part of the Meißen district , which expanded several times after the reunification. Diera had had its own school since 1836. It was merged with the Zadel school in 1953. On July 1, 1950, the previously independent municipality of Naundörfel was incorporated. On March 1, 1974, the surrounding communities Nieschütz and Zadel were incorporated. On January 1, 1999, the municipalities of Diera and Zehren formed the new municipality of Diera-Zehren with 21 districts.
