Dieter Thalhammer

Dieter Thalhammer (born April 18, 1943 in Freising ) is a German politician ( SPD ) and was Lord Mayor of the large district town of Freising in Bavaria from 1994 to 2012 .

Life

He started his professional career at the Bavarian Insurance Chamber in Munich. He then worked in the administration of the Grünschwaige experimental farm at the Technical University of Munich . From 1969 he was a manager in the community of Eching .

Thalhammer has two grown children and lives with his wife in the Lerchenfeld district . His daughter is married to Florian Herrmann (CSU), a member of the Bavarian State Parliament from Freising .

He is a member of the Catholic student association KDSt.V. Agilolfia Freising and diocesan chairman of the Catholic workers' movement in Munich-Freising.

From 1976 Thalhammer was a member of the district council of the Freising district and from 1978 also a member of the city ​​council of Freising. In addition to his position as chairman of the SPD parliamentary group , he was also a consultant for economics and finance for ten years. In 1994 he was elected Lord Mayor of Freising to succeed Adolf Schäfer and was confirmed in office in 2000 and 2006 (68.3 percent of the vote). The discussions about a third runway at Munich Airport and the lengthy preparations for the construction of the Freising western bypass were important topics during his tenure. For reasons of age, he was no longer allowed to run as mayor in the 2012 local elections in Bavaria.
