Stephan Bierner (* 1867 in Ingolstadt ; † 1951 in Langenthal , Upper Palatinate ) was a German politician and from 1899 to 1933 mayor (from 1924 mayor ) of Freising . His term of office ranged from the “Prince Regent's Time” through the first democracy to the beginning of National Socialist rule.

Long tenure

Bierner first studied law . During his studies he became a member of the KDStV Aenania Munich in the CV in 1888 . After his studies he settled in Ingolstadt as a legal counselor. After Martin Mauermayr resigned from the office of mayor of Freising, Bierner was elected by the magistrate as his successor in 1899 and remained so after the introduction of the council constitution in the Bavarian municipalities in 1919. He held the office for almost 34 years, until 1933 was forced to resign by the National Socialists and was replaced by the provisional successor Gottlieb Schwemmer .

Services

The city of Freising experienced an upswing during his tenure. The Feller cloth factory was successfully relocated to the former Neustift barracks and the Anton Schlueter Munich engine factory on Münchner Strasse. The city's population grew steadily, so that new settlements were built: the villa district on Prinz-Ludwig-Strasse, the settlement on Lankesberg and the Goldberg settlement. Bierner arranged for the construction of several public buildings, including the municipal swimming pool in the Lerchenfeld district (1902), the new construction of the town hall (1904/05) and the construction of the water tower on Prinz-Ludwig-Straße (1906). The Bavarian state and the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising also invested heavily in the city during this period: with the construction of the Prince Arnulf barracks and the extension of the clerical seminary on the Domberg.

Honors

Bierner was rehabilitated after the end of the Second World War . In 1946 the city of Freising granted him honorary citizenship . A street in the northern part of the city was named after him . Other awards include the award of the title of court councilor by Prince Regent Luitpold and the papal award of a "Knight of the Order of St. Silvester" .
