Dino Ballacci (born May 24, 1924 in Bologna , † August 6, 2013 in Imola ) was an Italian football player and later coach. As an active most of the time under contract with FC Bologna , he later coached a number of clubs and reached the only in the final of the Coppa Italia 1965/66 with the US Catanzaro .
Player career
Dino Ballacci, born on May 24, 1924 in Bologna , started playing football in his hometown. The local FC Bologna promoted the talent of the young defender and Ballacci spent his youth there. In 1945, in a year in which the game in Italy was virtually idle due to the war, Dino Ballacci was accepted into the first team of FC Bologna. From then on he played for thirteen years until 1957 in the football club's jersey and made 306 league games with eight goals during that time. Dino Ballacci just caught a relatively unsuccessful time at FC Bologna, while a generation before and after him came to championship honors. Ballacci could only win one title with his team, but the Coppa Alta Italia 1946 is not of great importance in retrospect.
In 1957 Dino Ballacci left Bologna FC and joined AC Lecco , where he played in Serie B football for a year and came to 28 league games with one goal. After this season he went on to FC Lucca , a former first division club who had since sunk into the lowlands of Serie C. Here Dino Ballacci made 29 games, the defender failed to score. In the following years he was still active for Calcio Portogruaro Summaga and FC Civitanovese before ending his football career in 1962 at the age of 38. In his last year as a player, Ballacci was also a coach for FC Civitanovese. He subsequently embarked on a career as a football coach, which earned him jobs at a number of clubs in Italy.
In 1954, Dino Ballacci also played an international match for the Italian national football team . He completed this in the 5-1 win against Egypt as part of the qualification for the 1954 World Cup . At the tournament itself he was not considered by national coach Lajos Czeizler .
Coaching career
After the end of his active career as a football player, Dino Ballacci became a coach, where he had his first station as a player-coach from 1961 to 1962 at FC Civitanovese. After engagements at Rovigo Calcio , AC Prato and AC Reggiana , Ballacci came to the southern Italian second division club US Catanzaro in the summer of 1965 , where he was employed for only one year, but helped the club to its greatest success in the club's history to date. While you could only reach a midfield rank in Serie B with tenth place, the Coppa Italia 1965/66 sensationally made it into the final. After having eliminated FC Messina , SSC Napoli , Lazio Rome , AC Turin and Inter Milan one after the other, another star ensemble awaited in the final with AC Florence . And again Catanzaro could keep up well. Kurt Hamrin brought the Fiorentina into the lead in the first half, but Giuseppe Marchioro was able to equalize for the southern Italians in the second half, so that it was a draw after the end of regular time. One minute before the end of extra time, it was Mario Bertini who ruined the dream of the first title in the club's history for US Catanzaro and led his Fiorentina to a cup triumph.
After this one successful season, Dino Ballacci's coaching phase at US Catanzaro ended again, he went to CC Catania for two years , with whom he played in Serie B, but was released early in his second season. After a further year in Prato and Catanzaro , Ballacci worked for three years for AC Arezzo in Serie B before coaching US Alessandria from 1973 to 1974 and advancing from third to second division with the northern Italian club. Ballacci succeeded in advancing again in the following season, he led AC Pistoiese from the then fourth-class Serie D to the third-highest division of Italian club football, in the following year you could confidently secure relegation there as a climber with ninth place. In the three following years Ballacci coached AC Arezzo again in the third division before he was in charge of AC Ancona from February to June 1980 . After his engagement in Ancona , Dino Ballacci was again responsible for two seasons on the sidelines at the US Alessandria and made promotion to Serie C1 with the club in Serie C2 in 1980/81 , but the direct relegation followed the following year. Then Dino Ballacci tinged through the lower class Italian football for a few years before he had his last coaching position in 1988 in his third term in Alessandria .
