The Unione Sportiva Alessandria Calcio 1912 is an Italian football club from Alessandria in Piedmont .
The club was founded in February 1912 and is nicknamed "I Grigi" ("The Gray") because of the gray playing clothes. The club played 13 seasons in Serie A between 1929 and 1960 , their best position in the table was the sixth place they reached in the seasons 1929/30 and 1931/32.

In 1896 the first sports club in Alessandria, Unione Pro Sport , was founded. Forza e Concordia and Forza e Coraggio followed later . While Unione Pro Sport and Forza e Concordia retired after 1900, Forza e Coraggio opened its Foot Ball Club Alessandria football section in 1912 , making it the city's first football club . The team's first jerseys were white and light blue. In November 1920, the Foot Ball Club Alessandria merged with another of the city's soccer teams, Unione Sportiva Alessandrina , which was founded in 1915. The new club was called Unione Sportiva Alessandria and played in gray shirts.
The team was in the season 1929/30 one of the founding members of Serie A , in which it played in the following eight seasons and in 1929/30 and 1931/32 each reached sixth place. In the 1936/37 season , however, they relegated to Serie B , in the following season the Grigi reached the first place here, but lost the two relegation games against FC Modena and Novara Calcio .
For the 1946/47 season, the US Alessandria returned to Serie A, but rose again after two years. Between 1957 and 1960 the club spent its last period in the top Italian division. During this time, namely in 1958, what is probably the most famous player in the club's history, Gianni Rivera , made his gray debut in the match against Inter Milan . After relegation in 1960, however, he moved to AC Milan and became one of the world's best footballers of his time.
Then you played for a few years in Serie B before disappearing in 1967 in Serie C and thus in football insignificance. The lowest point in the club's history was the relegation to Serie D in the 2002/03 season, which was followed by the bankruptcy of the club.
Then a new club, the Unione Sportiva Alessandria Calcio was founded in 1912 as a direct successor to the old club. In the 2003/04 season this reported for the Eccellenza , a regional amateur league that was promptly won and promoted to Serie D. In the 2007/08 season they reached first place in Group A of Serie D and thus made it to the new Lega Pro Seconda Divisione .
On January 18, 2016, Alessandria Calcio reached the semi-finals of the Coppa Italia for the first time in 30 years, a team from the Italian Third League, Lega Pro . Angelo Grugucci's team defeated second division Spezia Calcio 2-1 in the quarter-finals .
