The district of Anco is located in the province of La Mar in the Ayacucho region in south-central Peru . The district was founded on March 18, 1861. It has an area of ​​788 km². The 2017 census counted 8,496 inhabitants. The seat of the district administration is the 3215  m high village Chiquintirca with 195 inhabitants (as of 2017). Chiquintirca is located 30 km east-southeast of the provincial capital San Miguel . The archaeological sites of K'allapayuq Urqu and Waraqu Urqu are located in the district.

Geographical location

The district of Anco is located in the Peruvian Central Cordillera in the central east of the province of La Mar. The district is bordered in the east by the Río Apurímac flowing to the north .

The district of Anco borders in the southwest on the district of Chilcas , in the west on the district of San Miguel , in the north on the district Anchihuay , in the east on the districts of Villa Kintiarina and Villa Virgen (both in the province of La Convención ), in the southeast on the district Chungui and in the central south to the Huaccana district ( Chincheros province ).
