Cascashoko archaeological site

The Callahuanca district is located in the Huarochirí province of the Lima region in central western Peru . The district founded on April 12, 1957 has an area of ​​57.47 km². At the 2017 census, 798 residents lived in the district. In 1993 the population was 779, in 2007 it was 2405. The district administration is located in the 1761  m high town of Callahuanca with 640 inhabitants (as of 2017).

Geographical location

The Callahuanca District is located in the central northwest of the Huarochirí Province. It is located on the western flank of the Peruvian Western Cordillera on the eastern bank of the south-flowing Río Santa Eulalia . The district extends over the catchment area of the Quebrada Chauca. The important Callahuanca hydropower plant is located in the district . In addition, the archaeological site of Cascashoko is located in the extreme south of the district.

The Callahuanca district borders on the Santa Eulalia district in the west, the San Pedro de Casta district in the north and the San Mateo de Otao district in the southeast .
