The Ricardo Palma district is located in the Huarochirí province of the Lima region in the central west of Peru . The district was founded on September 15, 1944. It bears the name of the Peruvian writer Ricardo Palma (1833-1919). The district has an area of ​​34.59 km². At the 2017 census there were 6542 residents in the district. In 1993 the population was 4555, in 2007 it was 5769. The district administration is located in the 966  m high town of Ricardo Palma with 5358 inhabitants (as of 2017).

Geographical location

The Ricardo Palma district is located in the north-west of the Huarochirí province. It is located on the western flank of the Peruvian Western Cordillera on the left bank of the Río Rímac above the confluence of the Río Santa Eulalia .

The Ricardo Palma district is bordered by the Lurigancho district ( Lima Province ) to the west, the Santa Eulalia district to the north, the Santa Cruz de Cocachacra district to the east and the Antioquía district to the south .
