The Huancabamba District is located in the Huancabamba Province in the Piura region in northwestern Peru . The district was established on July 28, 1821. It has an area of ​​447.25 km². At the 2017 census , there were 27,599 residents in the district. In 1993 the population was 28,802, in 2007 30,116. The administrative seat is the provincial capital Huancabamba at 1929  m high with 3477 inhabitants (as of 2017).

Geographical location

The Huancabamba District is located in the Peruvian Western Cordillera in the central east of the Huancabamba Province. It has a longitudinal extent in NNW-SSE direction of about 30 km and a maximum width of about 25 km. The western district boundary runs along the continental divide . The Río Huancabamba flows through the district in a southern direction.

The district of Huancabamba borders in the west on the districts Canchaque and Lalaquiz , in the northwest on the district Pacaipampa ( province Ayabaca ), in the northeast on the district El Carmen de la Frontera , in the east on the district Tabaconas ( province San Ignacio ), in the southeast the district of Sóndor and in the south to the district of Sondorillo .
