The Huancas District is the smallest of the 21 districts that make up the Chachapoyas Province in the Amazonas region of northern Peru . The district has an area of ​​45.1 km². At the 2017 census, there were 1258 people in the district. In 1993 the population was 461, in 2007 809.

The Huancas district is located in a place where the high mountains slowly flatten towards the Río Sonche River .

The patron saint of the village is the "Señor de los Milagros", which is why the village festival takes place on October 18th.

Geographical location

In the north, the Huancas district borders on the Valera district ( Bongará province ), in the east on the Sonche district , in the south also on the Chachapoyas district and in the west on the Luya and Lámud districts (both in Luya province ).
