The district of Ocobamba is located in the province of La Convención in the Cusco region in south-central Peru . The district was founded on January 2, 1857. It has an area of ​​863 km². At the 2017 census, 4,932 people lived in the district. In 1993 the population was 5825, in 2007 it was 6281. The district administration is located in the 1543  m high village of Kelcaybamba (Kquelccaybamba) with 276 inhabitants (as of 2017).

Geographical location

The district of Ocobamba is located in the southeast of the province of La Convención, 90 km northwest of the regional capital Cusco . The district is located in the Peruvian Eastern Cordillera . It includes the catchment area of the Río Ocobamba , a left tributary of the Río Yanatile .

The district of Ocobamba borders in the north with the district Quellouno , in the east with the districts Yanatile and Lares (both in the province Calca ), in the south with the district Ollantaytambo ( province Urubamba ), in the southwest with the district Huayopata and in the west with the districts Maranura and Echarati .
