The district of Ocuviri is located in the province of Lampa in the region of Puno in southern Peru . The district has an area of 880 km². The 2017 census counted 2,422 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 1893, in 2007 it was 2655. The seat of the district administration is the 4230 m high village of Ocuviri with 720 inhabitants (as of 2017). Ocuviri is located just 65 km west-northwest of the provincial capital Lampa .
Geographical location
The district of Ocuviri is located in the Andean highlands in the northwest of the province of Lampa. In the southeast rises a mountain range up to 5200 m high with the peaks Yanahuara, Conaviri and Tanilu. There are several lakes in the area, including Lago Ananta in the extreme south and Lago Chulpia in the extreme northwest. The area is drained via the Río Ocuviri (later Río Lallimayoc) north to the Río Pucará (also Río Santa Rosa).
The district of Ocuviri borders in the west on the districts Condoroma and Pallpata (both in the province Espinar ), in the north on the districts Lalli and Umachiri (both in the province Melgar ), in the northeast on the district Ayaviri (also in the province Melgar) , to the east to the districts of Vilavila and Palca , to the southeast to the district of Paratía and to the south to the district of Santa Lucía .
