The district of Pucará is located in the province of Lampa in the region of Puno in southern Peru . The district has an area of 525 km². The 2017 census counted 5536 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 6958, in 2007 it was 6060. The district administration is located in the 3860 m high village of Pucará with 1857 inhabitants (as of 2017). Pucará is located 36 km north of the provincial capital Lampa .
Geographical location
The district of Pucará is located in the Andean highlands in the northeast of the province of Lampa. The Río Pucará flows south along the northeast and eastern district boundaries and drains the area.
The district of Pucará borders in the southwest on the district Palca , in the west on the district Ayaviri ( province Melgar ), in the northeast on the district Tirapata ( province Azángaro ), in the east on the districts José Domingo Choquehuanca and Santiago de Pupuja (both in the province Azángaro) and in the south to the Lampa district .
