The Salas District is located in the Ica Province in the Ica Region in southwestern Peru . The district founded on February 11, 1925 has an area of 651.72 km². At the 2017 census, there were 25,767 residents in the district. In 1993 the population was 10,190, in 2007 17,973. The district administration is located in the 425 m high city of Guadalupe with 16,753 inhabitants (as of 2017). Guadalupe is located on the northern edge of the metropolitan area of the provincial and regional capital Ica , 10 km north-northwest of the city center. The national road 1S ( Panamericana ) from Ica to Pisco passes Guadalupe.
Geographical location
The district of Salas is located in the extreme northwest of the province of Ica. The settlement areas are located in the southeast and along the Panamericana. The area consists mainly of desert. There is less irrigated agriculture. In the northeast the district extends to the foothills of the Peruvian Western Cordillera .
The Salas district is bordered to the west by the Paracas district , to the northwest by the San Andrés district , to the north by the Humay district (all three in the Pisco province ), to the northeast by the San José de los Molinos district , and to the southeast by the district San Juan Bautista and in the south to the Subtanjalla district .
Localities
In addition to the main town of Guadalupe, there are five other caseríos in the district:
- Camino de Reyes (720 inhabitants)
- Cerro Prieto (2297 inhabitants)
- Collazos (993 inhabitants)
- Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe (northern extension of Guadalupe)
- Santa Cruz de Villacurí (4453 inhabitants)
Huaca Guadalupe archaeological site
The Huaca Guadalupe archaeological site ( ⊙ ) is located 1.6 km east of Guadalupe city center. The ruins from the 13th and 14th centuries are attributed to the Ica and Inca cultures .
