The village church Bülow is a medieval stone church in the Mecklenburg community of Bülow in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district .

history

Bülow was first mentioned in 1262 as Bulowe and interpreted as a herb and plant place . In the same year Heinrich von Rolstede from Bülow sold two hooves of his property to the Dobbertin monastery . The Schwerin bishop Ludolf von Bülow confirmed in 1337 to the pastor Röbelmann of the Parchimer St. Marien Church some uplifts from Bülow. Until the early Middle Ages, Bülow was no longer mentioned. The von Barner , once also called Berner and Bärner, had been based in Bülow since 1573 and stayed there until they were expropriated in 1945.

From 1682 to 1690 there were various legal disputes about the patronage of the Wessin church through Rittmeister Magnus Friedrich von Barner auf Bülow (* approx. 1635; † December 22, 1703) , as documented by the court files of the Reich Chamber of Commerce. The von Barner claimed that one of their ancestors had received permission from the Pope in Rome to build a church in Bülow. Rittmeister Magnus Friedrich von Barner was provisional officer in the Dobbertin monastery from 1691 to 1696 . At the end of the 18th century the von Barner from Bülow also had the church patronage of Wessin.

Building history

The construction of the church is said to have started as early as the 13th century. Today's small stone church dates from the early 15th century and was changed after another renovation in the middle of the 18th century. Constant repairs were carried out between 1952 and 1984. In the years 1998–2002 the church was extensively restored.

Exterior

South-east side with tower, 2012

The rectangular stone building with its very strong buttresses has a gable roof and is covered with plain tiles. At the western end of the gable roof, a timber-framed lattice tower with a low pointed helmet covered with wooden shingles was placed as a ridge turret. The spire also has a button with a weathercock and cross.

There are four small arched windows in the plastered gable triangle on the flat, field-stone-visible west side of the choir . A round arched window with diamond glass has been inserted in the lower part. The windows and the entrance on the south side are changes from the 18th century. On the west side, the old ogival entrance was converted into a window.

Interior

The interior of the sacred building with its flat ceiling and throats is in the style of Baroque design. With the renovation in the middle of the 18th century, the interior design was changed significantly.

Pulpit altar

The pulpit and the altar form a unit. The pulpit altar, which was built on the east gable with rococo ornaments in 1752, bears the inscription of its founder M (Magnus) F (Friedrich) v. BARNER by ANNO 1752. Between the four coupled columns and the cranked entablature stands the pulpit with rocaille ornaments . On the sounding board are tables of the law and the eye of God in the halo attached.

In front of the altar is the grave slab of the donor MF v. Barner with an oval crucifix relief from the second half of the 18th century. On both sides of the altar there are two relief medallions made of plaster of paris with the heads of the evangelists Matthaeus and Marcus from the second half of the 19th century.

organ

The organ (I / - / 4) between the massive pillars on the west gallery was built in 1871 by Friedrich Friese III without a pedal. The flat front of the prospectus consists of three pipe fields. A dedication above the console relates the organ building to the year of peace in 1871. The restoration of the still completely preserved organ was carried out in 2002–2003 by the Plau organ builder Andreas Arnold from Mecklenburg Orgelbau . The re-inauguration took place on April 27, 2003.

On the parapet of the organ gallery is the richly gilded alliance coat of arms of the founder Magnus Friedrich von Barner 1572 with his wife Sovia Hinrigetta von Maltzan and Hinretta Sovia von Stralendorff .

Bells

Bell with inscription, 2012

Three bells once hung in the tower, two of which are still there. The largest with the Barners coat of arms was cast by the bell caster Otto Gerhard Meyer in Rostock in 1750 . The inscription reads:

"Mrs. Anna Petronella Wittwee von Barnern bored von Barnern from the house of Bulau gave this bell to the Bülau churches in the honor of God in the year 1750"

Above it says:

“Soli Deo Gloria. Me Fecit Otto Gerhard Meyer in Rostock "

A bell was removed on February 13, 1943 by the district craftsmen of the Reich Office for Metals and melted down for war purposes in Hamburg in the bell cemetery.

To the west of the church is the massive granite burial chapel of the von Barner family. Among the six coffins belonging to von Barner's that were broken into in 1991 is the coffin of Anna Petronella von Barner, who donated a church bell in Bülow in 1750.

Parish

The community belongs to the Parchim provost in the Mecklenburg parish of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany ( Northern Church ). Church services take place monthly.
