Phöben village church

The evangelical village church Phöben is a hall church in Phöben , a district of the city Werder (Havel) in the district of Potsdam-Mittelmark in the state of Brandenburg . The church belongs to the church circle center Mark Brandenburg of the Evangelical Church Berlin-Brandenburg-Silesian Oberlausitz .

location

The main road runs through the town in a west-east direction. In the historic town center, the street An der Kirche branches off to the north. The church stands northwest of this intersection on a raised piece of land that is not fenced .

history

In 1313 Phöben was already a church village . Further indications for the existence of a church can be found in a lap register from the year 1450. There two hooves are given for the pastor . Accordingly, there must have already been a parish church at this time . This is certain for the period from 1459 to 1672. After that, Phöben became a branch church of Alt Töplitz , and finally a branch church of Schmergow . The church patronage lay with the Lehnin monastery until 1542 , then with the sovereign. It is not known whether a new building has taken place in the meantime. The immediately preceding building was demolished on the orders of Friedrich II . A new church was built with the participation of the building officials Christian Friedrich (?) Feldmann, the master builder H. Berger and Pohlmann. According to an inscription panel on the tower floor, the masonry work was carried out by Johann Da (h) lbritz, while the carpentry work was carried out by Johann Ernst. It is also known that the farmers refused to do the otherwise obligatory manual and clamping services. This is how the church, which existed in the 21st century, was built between 1756 and 1758. It was expanded before 1857, including an apse . Craftsmen added the tower top, enlarged the windows and changed the plaster structure . In 1859, craftsmen installed two more supports under the gallery . This could then be pulled forward to the east to make room for the organ that was acquired in the same year . The existing parapet fields were used again. In the years 1890 and 1891 there were only minor structural changes. Bricklayers added the north portal, which was a mirror image of the still existing south portal on the building. During a visit in 1951, W. Wendland found damage to the church roof and attic. In 1958 the parish had the interior renovated. The painting of the apse and the ceiling of the nave from the 19th century was probably removed. A winter church was built below the gallery ; Altar and lectern were replaced. In 1965, craftsmen applied a new, slightly simplified exterior plaster. In 1987 and 1988 they renewed the stalls and the floor. A comprehensive renovation took place in the years 2003 to 2005. In 2004 the pastor's position in Schmergow was omitted, so that Phöben ecclesiastically fell back to Alt Töplitz. Restorations took place in 1958 and from 2008 to 2009.

Building description

View from the west

The structure was essentially built from brick , which was then plastered. The apse is semicircular. The lower plinth area is profiled twice, in the middle an arched window with a profiled transom . Above it is another, circumferential band and a cove at the transition to the roof .

The nave has a rectangular floor plan. The surrounding plinth can also be found there as a connecting stylistic element. A total of five high arched windows were arranged on the facade. They extend almost the entire height of the longship. They were arranged in pairs with two windows each in the east and in the west. In between is another window with a wide pilaster strip on each side . Another band at the height of the tower connects the round arches. The corners are also emphasized by a plaster. The south side is constructed identically. In place of the large central window, however, there is a rectangular gate, above it a small, raised window. The nave is around 16 m long and around 11.5 m wide and has a simple saddle roof with a profiled eaves cornice that is heavily hipped to the east .

The west tower is square and strongly drawn in opposite the ship. It is profiled several times: two broad pilaster strips on the west side extend from the ground floor to the middle floor. In the middle is a rectangular gate, above it an arched window . On the north and south sides on the ground floor there are two round arch-shaped panels that take up the shape of the windows on the nave. The tower tapers above a cornice . This part was made of half-timbering that was lined with masonry bricks. On each side is a large, arched sound arcade . Here, too, the corners are emphasized with pilaster strips. Above it rises an eight-fold kinked spire , which ends with a tower ball and cross.

Furnishing

The church furnishings originate mainly from the time the church was built, including the pulpit altar with a wooden, polygonal pulpit , which was probably built in 1856. The fields are structured with arched panels. In 1958 the parish shortened the foot and changed the stairs. In 2006 the pulpit was given a new color.

The Fünte was created by a hitherto unknown artist, probably from terracotta towards the end of the 19th century . It consists of a polygonal attachment, which stands on an also polygonal base, which is decorated with neo-Gothic tracery . The horseshoe gallery rests on Tuscan columns; on it is an organ that Gottfried Wilhelm Baer from Niemegk built in 1859. The instrument has nine registers with a manual and a pedal . The brochure is in five parts and was redesigned in 2006. In addition to the church furnishings, there is a figure of Christ in the southeast corner, which was probably made in the 19th century.

The interior of the church has a flat roof; the walls were whitewashed. The windows in the apse date from 2006 and are decorated with abstract glazing in red, purple and orange tones. Two bells hang in the tower that were cast in 1922 by the Schilling und Lattermann company .
