Doruchów [ dɔ'ruxuf ] ( German Doruchow , 1940-1945 Dietrichsweiler ) is a village in western Poland and the seat of the rural community of the same name ( Gmina wiejska ). It is located about 130 km southeast of Poznan and almost 90 km east of Wroclaw in the Greater Poland Voivodeship and belongs to the powiat Ostrzeszowski .

history

The village of Doruchów in the extreme south of Greater Poland at the foot of the Wzgórza Ostrzeszowskie , a mountain range on the border with Lower Silesia , was first mentioned in writing in 1213 as the property of a landlord named Doruch. Iron works were built here in the 15th century , and Huta Zaleśna , a relatively large ironworks , began its activity in the 16th century . Iron extraction ends in the 18th century.

Doruchów suddenly became famous all over Poland in 1775 when 14 residents of the place were accused of sorcery and burned alive at the stake in the last witch trial in the country . The following year, the events lead to the abolition of torture and the death penalty on charges of sorcery by the Sejm in Warsaw . A film shot in Katowice in 1994 takes up the case.

From 1793 to 1807 and then from 1815 Doruchów was under Prussian rule. In 1918 it returned to Poland and the municipality (Gmina) was established in 1934. During the occupation by the German Reich 1939–1945, the population suffered from severe reprisals. In the first days of the Second World War , Wehrmacht soldiers shot 34 residents of the Doruchów hamlet of Torzeniec. A film with the title "Torzeniec", also made in Katowice, is dedicated to these events.

Since 1998 Doruchów has belonged again to the powiat Ostrzeszowski , the district town of Ostrzeszów is only nine kilometers west of the village.
