The Dr. Ziegner-Gnuechel was a seaside resort ship from the city of Wilhelmshaven , which later sailed for a long time on the Baltic Sea under the name Stubbenkammer . It was named after Hans Ziegner-Gnüchtel , who was mayor of Wilhelmshaven from 1886 to 1906.

The steamship ran in August 1906 at Jos. L. Meyer in Papenburg from the stack . The city of Wilhelmshaven continued the Dr. Ziegner-Gnuechel on the Wilhelmshaven Eckwarderhörne line and for excursions to Helgoland and Wangerooge . During the First World War the ship served the Imperial Navy as a staff ship for the minesweeping division in the Outer Jade . From 1919 to 1927 the city of Wilhelmshaven used the ship again in the seaside resort service and for trips to the Heligoland.

In 1928 the Wittmiß brothers from Gager on Rügen bought the ship and had the passenger facilities rebuilt. Your shipping company "Mönchguter Motorschiffslinie" used the ship, renamed Ernst-Moritz-Arndt , primarily on the Göhren - Sellin - Binz - Sassnitz line . In addition, trips on the Baltic Sea as well as to Greifswald and Stralsund were offered.

The Saßnitzer Dampfschiffsgesellschaft acquired the ship in 1934 and continued to use it under the name Stubbenkammer in the seaside resort service on the coast of Rügen, in the Greifswalder Bodden and on the Baltic Sea . During the Second World War , the Navy pulled in the ship and used it as a troop transport. The stump chamber was stationed in Kiel around 1942 .

From 1946 she was managed in quick succession by the Hamburg companies Orion Schiffahrts-Gesellschaft and Ernst Behncke . The Kieler Verkehrs AG chartered the ship for the Förde -fahrt and bought it on November 1st, 1948. Before and after the conversion to a motor ship in 1950 at the Flensburg mechanical engineering institute Johannsen & Sörensen , the ship, renamed in Gaarden , served as a cattle transporter . In November 1963 the Gaarden was sold to Joh. Byl auf Borkum for demolition .

technology

The 34.15 meter long and 6.87 meter wide steamship was measured at 169.58 GRT . Two compound steam engines with a total output of 250 hp brought the twin screw steamer to a speed of 10 knots . The ship was considered a "coal eater" because of its high consumption. There were 8 crew members and up to 240 passengers on board.
