The Duisburger Fußballverein 08 eV is a German soccer club from the Duisburg district of Hochfeld .

Soccer

The club was founded in June 1908 as a high fields football club . First, the team competed in white and red striped jerseys and white shorts. The first soccer field found its home between Wanheimerstrasse, Eigenstrasse and Reichsstrasse (now Rheinhauser Strasse).

A year later, the company was accepted into the Rheinisch-Westfälischer Spielverband , today's West German Football Association , and thus entered regular gaming operations. By 1912, the club managed to march through as champions of the respective league in the district league Rheinischer Nordkreis , at the time the second highest division.

In 1914 there were some changes for the club: It was renamed Duisburger Fußballverein 08, was given the club colors of green and white, which are still valid today, and is entered in the club register.

After the resumption of game operations after the First World War , the club played again in the district league before, in 1921, behind Duisburger SpV, it reached second place, which was enough to qualify for the newly created Gauliga .

In 1933, the Niederrhein Cup winners were the soccer team. Second in the league behind TuS Duisburg 99 , the club reached the newly organized Gauliga Niederrhein . In 1937, after four years of excellence, the club had to be relegated as the penultimate. In the same year he reached the round of 16 in the Tschammerpokal after a 1-0 win over VfB Mühlburg , but failed there because of Borussia Dortmund . In Dortmund there was a 1: 1 after extra time, in the replay the DFV had to admit defeat 1: 3 at home in front of 8,000 spectators.

After the Second World War , gaming operations in the district class were resumed. In 1947 the promotion to the regional league was achieved, in 1949 the return to the first class was achieved with the promotion to the Oberliga West . The club only played there for a year. In 1951, the promotion was narrowly missed on the last day of the game, and in the end Schwarz-Weiß Essen was ahead.

In 1953, due to a reduction in the number of teams in the league, they were relegated to the Niederrhein Association , and it was not until 1962 that they were promoted to the 2nd League West . However, the club went downhill from the mid-1960s. The soccer team crashed into the district league. DFV achieved great cup successes for the last time in 1966/67 when they successively won VfB Lohberg (2-0), Eintracht Duisburg (3: 1), VfR Neuss (1-0 a.s.) and Bayer 04 Leverkusen ( 1: 0) turned off. In the semi-finals of the West German Cup, Duisburg FV lost 5-1 to Alemannia Aachen , but had qualified for the finals of the DFB Cup. There the team lost 2-0 to Schwarz-Weiß Essen in front of 6,000 spectators .

In 1982 the soccer team reached the Niederrhein Association again and in the same year welcomed FC Bayern Munich to a friendly game: 12,000 spectators experienced a 1: 4 in Wedau Stadium (goalscorer Balsam). In 1984/85 even the first round of the DFB Cup was reached, but where the then first-class SV Waldhof Mannheim proved to be too strong at 1: 4 (goal scorer Lohmann). In 1988 the descent followed, in 1991 the ascent again. In 1994, the club narrowly missed promotion to the Oberliga Nordrhein as fifth .

After the club was relegated from the association league in 1998, it fell into the district league A by 2003 , from which it was also relegated to the district league B in 2009. In the 2009/10 season, however, succeeded in returning to the district league A, so that the club has been playing in ninth class again since the 2010/11 season.

For the 2012/2013 season, Duisburg FV 08 signed coach Salvatore Campanella. The club wanted to move up with him within three years in the district league, but failed twice very narrowly and was only "runner-up" in the district league A and thus just missed the desired promotion. Salvatore Campanella did not extend his contract and ended his coaching work at Duisburg FV 08 on the last day of the 2014/2015 season.

Thanks to a great performance in the 2013/2014 Niederrhein Cup season, after a few years they were able to participate in the 2014/2015 season again. There they met in the 1st round as a ninth division team on the later promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga, MSV Duisburg , and lost after a relatively good start with 0: 9.

For the 2015/2016 season, Alessandro Vergaro will train the 1st team of Duisburg FV 08 after he had confidently led the 2nd team to promotion to the district B league.

After the promotion to the district league as the league leader was missed again, Alessandro "Totti" Vergaro also ended his engagement in the 08ers and moved to SV Orsoy.

For the 2016/2017 season, the 08ers hired Berkant Serifoski, who had been active in his own youth work for many years, as the coach of the first men's team. This had already led the 1st men's team from the district league B to the district league A in the 2009/2010 season and then devoted itself again to youth football. In summer 2019 they became champions of the district league A (group 1), with two victories in the relegation games against TV Voerde , the champion of the parallel group, they achieved the longed-for promotion to the district league. Coach Serifoski then withdrew and the club signed Dirk Pusch as his successor.
